CHURCH TWILIGHT ZONE – THE VANISHING MARRIAGE

You are about to enter another dimension. A dimension not only of sight and sound, but of mind and heart. It’s a journey into a wondrous land and a Kingdom beyond the imagination. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It leaves no middle ground between light and shadow, between religion and superstition, and it lies between the heights of man’s emotion and the summit of his heart. This goes beyond the dimension of imagination…WELCOME TO THE CHURCH IN THE TWILIGHT ZONE…

Today’s episode deals with the power of time travel and the mystery of the past and the future in our present. Our story surrounds the lives of a retired Pastor and his wife; Henry and Hazel Smith. It seems that Henry and Hazel came upon, quite unexpectedly, a time warp machine on their little farm outside of southwest Ohio. The Smith’s were married in 1913 and were celebrating their 50th Anniversary and were just talking about how nice it would be to be able to go back 50 years in time to relive their happy marriage all over again. This is when they stumbled upon the time warp machine.

But instead of going backward in time, they were sent into the future; to the year 2013.

WHAT THEY FOUND TERRIFIED THEM! They discovered that marriage had been redefined and that the one man/one woman concept was no longer what made a marriage. To their dismay, they found that adultery and divorce was commonplace and was bearly questioned, even among Christian people. It appeared that a normal happily married couple was almost non-existent because so many things had splintered the family. They could not believe what they were seeing and experiencing from the future.

They found that technology had bypassed anything they had ever imagined. They were amazed to find that nearly every home had one of those new things called a television, but now televisions were the central part of the home. They were huge and in bright full color instead of being a small little black and white screen sitting in the corner. But what they saw on these new was even more shocking. They found that television went from 3 channels to view, to over 300 to view!

However, they were appalled by what was being shown. Marriage was attacked constantly, while, at the same time, an “alternate lifestyle” with open sexual immorality was protrayed as completely normal. They discovered that “gay” no longer meant happy. They found that the brightest, most intelligent, and most popular people in America were these “gay” people, and that the worse people in America were those mindless, bigoted Christians, with their hateful ways found in the Bible. The Smith’s couldn’t believe what they were seeing! “Is this the future of our Nation?”, Henry asked his wife Hazel. “Do you understand what this means to our children and grandchildren?” They both began to weep…

The Smith’s were terrified by what the time warp machine had shown them. They were horrified by what America had become in the year 2013. What could they do? How could they change the direction that America was heading?

It was in June of 2013 when the Smith’s sat in front of one of those full color televisions and heard the announcement of the Supreme Court Ruling regarding “Gay Marriage” – the News Reporter was about to bring the breaking news live from Washington, D.C., when suddenly the Smith’s were teleported back 50 years to their living room in that small farm house. There they stood, wrapped in each other’s arms – staring at a small black and white television in the corner…

Suddenly, they both knew what to do, without even saying anything to each other. Henry bolted to the closet and pulled out his shotgun, while Hazel carried that little black and white television out to the backyard – and that retired pastor lifted the shotgun up, took an aim for that small screen and put that television “out of its misery”.

It was then they realized they had just experienced the “Church In The Twilight Zone”

Think about it.

  1. Nice John.

Interesting point though perhaps they could have travelled back in time to witness the church say in 200 -900 AD I guess they would be shocked by the Murder, Genocide, Theft, Replacement Theology, committed then.

As a practising Karahite Jew The subject of Christians protesting against Homosexuality always intrigues me. As the only 100% statement which highlights the forbidden ACT of same sex sexual relationships is found in the Hebrew writings ( similar to the Christian Old Testament but with many translation errors ) is found in the commands, Instructions, decrees, our written Torah, However as Christians teach and believe they are not under the Law of GOD even though this insults GOD as it implies Adonai Hashem makes mistakes, how does the Torah apply to Christians who reject Gods decrees and Instruction ( Torah ) As Christians are using the Torah to object to same sex relationships.
It is a bit of double standards ….at work you can not reject the Torah claim it has no authority and then use the Torah to condemn others… It makes no sense.

  3. people need the whole counsel of God’s Word the Bible–all of the 66 books and honor it by believing it. i do not reject the old testament in favor of the new because it is the new testament concealed just as the new testament is the old testament revealed. and ithe new testament states that fornication (any type of sex outside of the bounds of marriage) is sin. sin-no ifs ands or butts.1 cor 6:9-20 explains this. in other passages also this is spelled out. (explains also why homosexuals want to be rid of the guilt to “use” the legitimacy of marriage to “sanctify” what is clearly s i n and w r o n g in Holy God’s Eyes). Truth without Grace is brutal just as Grace without Truth is hypocritical. it is a tandem…..this is the balance found in Jesus. for the law was given by moses, but Grace and Truth came by Jesus Christ. john 1:17 and just ahead of that verse–and the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us, (and we beheld His Glory, the Glory as of the only begotten of the Father), full of Grace and Truth. verse 14. Christ is the standard of Righteousness! so many worldly believers love to quote matthew 7:1-5 but they do not like to read matthew 7:21-23! sadly toooo many that call themselves christians are not looking to Him as The Standard of right and wrong. are they even born-again in the first place (?) is what it makes me think {{God Knows}} as the church is full of tares coming up with the wheat and must examine their own individual hearts. the Lord will be harvesting the wheat and the tares will be burned. the Lord has faithfully warned us but so very many people do not honor His Word. 😦 just a quick fly by to see what is being posted. love this place! thanks for the wise & timely posts and comments.

  4. Jason you make a grave error – the difference in relationship to the law for a Christian vs a jew. Jesus himself said, “Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish, but to fulfill.” in Matthew 5:17. He changed our relationship to the law and gave a direct explanation of how he would fulfill it and thereby provide the means of salvation that keeping of the law predicted and provided the faithful of Israel a hope for. Coming of the Moshiach (messiah) is the most momentous event in human history and did not point out a “mistake” in the words given to Moses and the prophets – He completed it and confirmed that everything they had been told would come to pass he also pointed out many errors that the Pharisees were making in that day in how they had perverted and twisted the law becoming hyprocrites.

For example: Then Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem and said, “Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat.” He answered them, “And why do you break the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition? For God commanded, ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ‘Whoever reviles father or mother must surely die.’ But you say, ‘If anyone tells his father or his mother, “What you would have gained from me is given to God,” he need not honor his father.’ So for the sake of your tradition you have made void the word of God. You hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, when he said:
“‘This people honors me with their lips,
    but their heart is far from me;
in vain do they worship me,
teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’”
    (Matthew 15:1-9 ESV)
Jesus did not undermine the law here one bit (not one jot or tittle). He DID undermine the hypocrisy that sinful humans are prone to when they believe themselves righteous of their own accord. The New Testament does prohibit homosexual relationships quite clearly – it defines the one acceptable marital relationship as a man is to be the husband of one wife (Ephesians 5, Timothy 3, Titus 1). Sexual Immorality is condemned – see now that the definition if sexually immoral behavior is not altered from the writings of Moses and the prophets at all – and in some places examples are given of how a debased mind will crave sexually immoral behavior, Romans 1:18-32 is just one very good example.
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.
“Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.
For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.
And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done. They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Though they know God’s righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.”

    (Romans 1:18-32 ESV)

Thank you for your questions. As a Karahite you are sharing more of a similarity with most reformed Christians who hold a very high opinion of scripture believing that the scriptures are the very word of God divinely inspired and without error (though certainly we could discuss errors men have made over the years in translating and understanding them). On that thought, we are taught by Christ and the apostles that the best way to interpret scripture is with scripture. If it seems one piece of scripture is inconsistent or contradicts another – it is not the case that this is so but that our own understanding is flawed who in our finite and sinful hearts are unable grasp the infinite and holy mind of God any more than he supernaturally enables us. So the good Berean (a group that is praised in the new testament) will search the scriptures diligently to see if something they are taught is truth or error.

  6. Also for Jason, if you are still doubtful about Jesus identity as the promised messiah I would highly recommend consideration of the following video:
    http://dod.org/Products/My-Search-for-Messiah–Part-I__DOD1931.aspx

It is the testimony of a Bible Teacher I greatly respect who came from a orthodox jewish home and a family of holocaust survivors. He is a professor now at a seminary near where I live, and blesses me so much with his insightful teaching on the law, prophets and what it his meant to him to be a Jew and a disciple of Jesus Christ.

  7. Fantastic Post. Thanks. I then came across Jason’s comment and was being totally judgmental about how he twists the facts when I was reminded that we can all be guilty of that very same thing. God help us to not use the Word to create our own theology but use the Word to conform our thoughts, words, and actions to the will of God. Justasheep you are well thought out, and articulate and everything I thought to say in response was covered more eloquently by you. Thank you for standing firm on truth.
