For most people, Christmas is all about the presents. But how did such a supposedly sacred holiday become a festival of greed? Not many people know the history behind Christmas gift giving, and it will probably shock you. This year, Americans will spend somewhere in the neighborhood of 600 billion dollars on Christmas, but most people have no coherent explanation for why they are buying all of these gifts. Those that are Christian will tell you that they are doing it to celebrate the birth of Christ, but as you will see below, gift giving on this holiday originated long before Christ was born. Others will tell you that they are just following tradition, but most of them have absolutely no idea where the tradition of Christmas gift giving originally came from. And the truth is that most people simply don’t care about the history. They are just excited about all of the stuff that they are going to get on December 25th. But if you are curious to learn how Christmas became a festival of greed, just keep reading…
In early America, there was no Christmas gift giving. In fact, the Puritans greatly disapproved of celebrating the holiday, and in some areas the celebration of Christmas was actually banned by law.
For example, if you were caught celebrating Christmas in the state of Massachusetts from 1659 to 1681 you could be fined five shillings…
On May 11, 1659, the Massachusetts Bay Colony legislature even went so far as to officially ban Christmas and gave anyone found celebrating it a fine of five shillings. The legislature stated the ban was needed “For preventing disorders arising in severall places within this jurisdiceon, by reason of some still observing such festivalls as were superstitiously kept in other countrys, to the great dishonnor of God & offence of others, it is therefore ordered … that whosoever shall be found observing any such day as Christmas or the like, either by for-bearing of labour, feasting, or any other way, upon any such account as aforesaid, every such person so offending shall pay for every such offence five shillings, as a fine to the county.”
The ban remained in place for 22 years until it was repealed in 1681 after a new surge of European immigrants brought a demand for the holiday. Even though the ban was lifted, Christmas was not warmly embraced by the puritans and it remained a dull and muted holiday over two centuries later.
But weren’t the Puritans Christians?
Didn’t they want to honor the Lord Jesus?
Of course they were Christians. They took their faith incredibly seriously. But they also knew their history a lot better than we do.
Most Christians do not realize this, but Christians did not celebrate anything in late December for the first 300 years after the time of Jesus. The only people that celebrated anything at that time were the pagans.
By now, most of you are probably aware of the great Roman celebration known as Saturnalia. But most people don’t know that our tradition of gift giving can be traced back to that holiday. The following is how Wikipedia describes this ancient pagan festival…
Saturnalia was an ancient Roman festival in honor of the deity Saturn, held on the 17th of December of the Julian calendar and later expanded with festivities through to the 23rd of December. The holiday was celebrated with a sacrifice at the Temple of Saturn, in the Roman Forum, and a public banquet, followed by private gift-giving, continual partying, and a carnivalatmosphere that overturned Roman social norms:gambling was permitted, and masters provided table service for their slaves. The poet Catullus called it “the best of days.”
Most people do not realize this, but the priests of Saturn would even carry wreaths of evergreen boughs in procession throughout the pagan Roman temples. These processions probably looked at least a little bit similar to our Christmas parades today.
So precisely who was Saturn? Here is more from Wikipedia…
Saturn (Latin: Saturnus) is a god in ancient Roman religion, and a character in myth. Saturn is a complex figure because of his multiple associations and long history. He was the first god of the Capitol, known since the most ancient times as Saturnius Mons, and was seen as a god of generation, dissolution, plenty, wealth, agriculture, periodic renewal and liberation. In later developments he came to be also a god of time. His reign was depicted as a Golden Age of plenty and peace. The Temple of Saturn in the Roman Forum housed the state treasury. In December, he was celebrated at what is perhaps the most famous of the Roman festivals, the Saturnalia, a time of feasting, role reversals, free speech, gift-giving and revelry. Saturn the planet and Saturday are both named after the god.
Eventually, the Romans began holding a festival at the end of Saturnalia on December 25th called Dies Natalis Solis Invicti, which means “the birthday of the unconquered sun”. Throughout the empire, the “rebirth of the sun” was celebrated with great revelry. The winter solstice was past and now the days were starting to get longer again. It was a seemingly logical time to honor “the rebirth of the sun god”.
When the Roman Empire legalized Christianity in the early 4th century, the Roman government began to put a lot of pressure on church leaders to fit into the broader society. So eventually the birthday of the Son of God was moved to the time when the rest of society was celebrating “the rebirth of the sun god”. December 25th was first celebrated as the birthday of Jesus in about 336 AD, and in the year 350 AD Pope Julius I officially decreed that Christians would celebrate that day from then on. At first, the new holiday was slow to be adopted by Christians and it was not widely observed until about the year 400.
And of course Jesus was not actually born in late December. The evidence that we have indicates that he was most probably born in the fall during the Feast of Tabernacles. The only reason people celebrate the birth of Jesus on December 25th today is because the Catholics of the 4th century wanted to appease the pagan Roman government and the pagan culture at large.
Over time, the practice of gift giving during late December faded, and by the early 19th century the big tradition was actually to open presents on New Year’s Day. But then merchants saw an opportunity. According to historians, advertisements for “Christmas presents” began appearing in newspapers in the United States in the 1820s…
Buying gifts to celebrate Christmas is steeped in tradition, dating to the 1820s when newspapers began to advertise items for Christmas presents, according to the Connecticut Historical Society.
“This holiday market place is part of the larger birth of the consumer culture that extends itself to all aspects of our social life,” said Leigh Eric Schmidt, author of “Consumer Rites” (Princeton University Press, 1995).
Schmidt, a professor of religion at Princeton University in New Jersey, said if the nation had continued the practice of giving gifts only as mementos for New Year’s, Christmas would not have evolved into the huge retail venture it is today. There would have been more focus on the religious aspects of the holiday. But all that changed when gift-giving became a way to honor family relationships.
And at first, Christmas in America was nothing like the festival of greed that it is today. Gifts were usually small, modest and personal. The following is one description of the tradition of Christmas gift givingduring that era…
In the 1820s, ’30s and ’40s merchants had noticed the growing role of gifts in the celebration of Christmas and New Year. Starting in the mid- to late- 1850s, imaginative importers, craftspersons and storekeepers consciously reshaped the holidays to their own ends even as shoppers elevated the place of Christmas gifts in their home holiday. However, for all the efforts of businessmen to exploit the season Americans persistently attempted to separate the influence of commerce from the gifts they gave.
What emerged was a kind of dialogue between consumers and merchants. Many gift-givers, for instance, ranked handmade gifts over purchased or totally manufactured ones. Retailers responded by marketing partially assembled goods to which givers applied the finishing touches. Americans also moderated the relationship between commerce and giving by wrapping the gifts they gave. The custom had once been merely to give a gift unadorned and uncovered, but a present hidden in paper heightened the effect of the gesture, fixing the act of giving to a moment of revelation. Wrapping also helped designate an item as a gift. As gifts came increasingly from stores, factories and homes of cottage labourers, paper and string helped redefine an object to meet its social use. The commercial work comprehended the importance of this symbolic transformation of goods. Grander stores began to wrap gifts purchased from their stock in distinctive, coloured papers, tinsel cords and bright ribbons, as part of their delivery services. Thus, while paper might have blurred a present’s association with commerce in some cases, in others it advertised a material status associated with patronizing the ‘right’ store.
Over time, Christmas gifts came to be associated with a mythical gift giver in cultures all over the globe.
Of course in the United States this mythical gift giver is known as “Santa Claus”, but in other areas of the planet the traditions are very different…
Current tradition in several Latin American countries (such as Venezuela and Colombia) holds that while Santa makes the toys, he then gives them to the Baby Jesus, who is the one who actually delivers them to the children’s homes, a reconciliation between traditional religious beliefs and the iconography of Santa Claus imported from the United States.
In South Tyrol (Italy), Austria, Czech Republic, Southern Germany, Hungary, Liechtenstein, Slovakia, and Switzerland, the Christkind (Ježíšek in Czech, Jézuska in Hungarian and Ježiško in Slovak) brings the presents. Greek children get their presents from Saint Basil on New Year’s Eve, the eve of that saint’s liturgical feast. The German St. Nikolaus is not identical with the Weihnachtsmann (who is the German version of Santa Claus / Father Christmas). St. Nikolaus wears a bishop’s dress and still brings small gifts (usually candies, nuts, and fruits) on December 6 and is accompanied by Knecht Ruprecht. Although many parents around the world routinely teach their children about Santa Claus and other gift bringers, some have come to reject this practice, considering it deceptive.
This article may upset some people because their Christmas traditions are so deeply cherished.
But there is no reason to be upset.
If you are going to do something, you should know why you are doing it.
Knowing our history empowers us to take control of our lives and to make better decisions.
As a Christian, I never knew any of the history behind Christmas when I was growing up. So I could never explain the reasons for why I was doing the things that I was doing to others.
And no holiday should ever be a festival of greed.
So whatever you are celebrating this time of the year, make sure it is for the right reasons and not the wrong ones.
In response to Israel’s disregard of calls to halt settlement construction, European Parliament to discuss motion to urge EU governments to recognize Palestinian state
The European Parliament plans to hold a vote on Thursday on a resolution to recognize a Palestinian state, following Sweden’s official decision to do so and symbolic votes in Spain, the UK and Ireland. The moves reflect mounting frustration in the EU at Israel’s expanding settlement program on land the Palestinians want for a state following the collapse of US-sponsored peace talks.
Israel is working to foil the decision, with officials warning that if the motion passes, the country will view Europe’s decision as anti-Israeli. The parties behind the initiative are the Socialists and Democrats Group (S&D) and the Unified European Left Party (GUE).
After Sweden officially recognized the state of Palestine in October, the Social Democrats announced its widespread support of the move, and the president of the center-left party stated that such a decision would be the only solution to end the Israeli-Palestinian Commented on the situation in the region, Ambassador Walzer said that the fact that terrorist groups are still operating in the area has an impact on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, turning it into a religious war conflict which leaves no room for compromises and concessions, conflict, and that it would benefit both parties.
Friends, it is getting serious in Israel. The settlement program in question is in Judea. The EU beast (and the rest of the world) is totally against Israel and is ready to throw her to the wolves.

I believe that the Psalm 83 War will be fought before September 23 of 2015. Here is my reasoning:
1) In Daniel 9:24, referring to Israel and Jerusalem, Yahuah gives “your people and your holy city” seventy ‘sevens’ (See notes in spreadsheet cell B10).
2) The last of those seventy ‘sevens’ will be complete on September 23, 2015 (see notes in spreadsheet cells J11 and N5).
3) On the Hebrew calendar, 2015 is a shmita year. The last day of that shmita year is September 13, 2015 (see spreadsheet cell M5).
Note: Shmita means “release.” Listen to “The Harbinger” author Rabbi Johnathan Cahn to understand its meaning and its significance. Can be seen HERE.
I believe that the boundaries of present day Israel will be expanded to include some or all of her Abrahamic covenant designated lands; they will be repatriated to her at the end of the shmita year. I believe that this repatriation will be a result of the Psalm 83 War.
4) The Psalm 83 War must be fought before the Ezekiel 38 War. The nations defeated in the Psalm 83 War do not appear among the enemies that come against Israel in the Ezekiel 38 War (see notes in spreadsheet cells M7 and X66). I infer from this fact that they no longer exist or that they are so resoundingly defeated that they no longer pose a threat to Israel.
5) If sacrifice is stopped at the Abomination of Desolation in connection with the Ezekiel 38 War (see spreadsheet cell W22), then the sacrifice must have been started earlier.
6) Sacrifice is not going on now; the Waqf Muslims still control the Temple Mount. The sacrifice cannot start until control of the Temple Mount is rested from the Muslims. It is clear to me that such an event will not occur through peaceful, political means. More, the sacrifice cannot be started until the anointing of the Most Holy Place. The Hebrews must control the Temple Mount in order to be able to anoint the Most Holy Place.
7) According to Daniel 9:24, the Most Holy Place is anointed within the seventy ‘sevens’ which end on September 23, 2015 (see spreadsheet cell J11). This means that the Hebrews will control the Temple Mount on or before September 23, 2015. To me, this implies that the Psalm 83 War will be fought before September 23, 2015.
8) Considering how “The Harbinger” author Rabbi Johnathan Cahn has connected the end of shmita years to major world events, it seems logical to me to place the Psalm 83 War in the ten (10) days that run from September 13, 2015 to September 23, 2015. The war will be short and decisive. Israel will use nuclear weapons. Israel will win.
Please remember that these are my opinions. I am not a prophet. I could be wrong. You are encouraged to study the prophetic scriptures to confirm or deny what I have said here.
Blessings to you in your studies and preparations for the days ahead.
The European Union’s new foreign affairs chief Federica Mogherini on Saturday called for the establishment of a Palestinian state, saying the world “cannot afford” another war in Gaza.
“It is not only the people of Gaza that can’t afford having a fourth war, all the world cannot afford this,” she said.
“We cannot just sit and wait. If we sit and wait it will go on for another 40 years. We have to have action now,” said Mogherini, a former Italian foreign minister who recently took over from Catherine Ashton as the top EU diplomat.
“We need a Palestinian state — that is the ultimate goal and this is the position of all the European Union,” Mogherini said during her first visit to Gaza.
Mogherini called for the creation of a Palestinian state within the five years of her term, and announced that the EU intends to play a more influential role in the Middle East than it has in the past.
2 Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem. (Westbank/Palestine and East Jerusalem)
3 And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it
The EU foreign minister is not a man so she can not fulfill the role of the man of sin, but she is clearly saying the right things. The battle for Jerusalem is going strong and soon it will turn the whole world on its head.
Matthew 24:4-5 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying , I am Christ; and shall deceive many
Matthew 24:24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
Can a born again child of the living God be deceived? Jesus said no!
Can a religious lost church person be deceived? Yes!
If so, don’t you guys think it is better to preach the Gospel to the lost than to warn the lost against deception?
Heated debate welcome. :-)
Friends, the following is a mail I got today warning about the Hebrew Roots movement. The original author is unknown but the message is true. If you are involved in this cult you are deceived.
Shalom friends. This page is to warn against individuals and ministries who are teaching error. The main objective of these ministries is to make Gentile believers think that they are Israel in one form or another. Recently in the congregation I’ve had to make the difficult decision of asking a few Gentile believers to leave. These undiscerning folks were distorting scripture by claiming that they were Israelites. Sadly God’s word is twisted to such an extent that they no longer called themselves Gentiles. Shaul (Paul) in Romans 11 warns Gentiles against becoming proud and boastful against Israel “the natural branches” We need to pray for those who are fooled by this unhealthy dissatisfaction with their true identity and must look for some secret teaching, and end up following the wolves.
Here are a few tips of how to recognize those who follow the Israelite Identity Cult.
1. They might be wearing tzitziot (tassels) men as well as women! This command was given to Israel in Numbers 15, and NOT to the foriegner/Gentile.
2. Their men might start to grow beards to identify themselves as part of this cult. NOTE: There’s nothing wrong with a Gentile/non Israelite growing a beard as long as they don’t believe themselves to be an Israelite!
3. They’ll tell you that the modern day Jewish people are NOT part of Israel. In Acts 2 Kefa (Peter) spoke to the crowds and addressed them as “Men of Israel, whole house of Israel, Jews, and brothers” Kefa used these terms to refer to the same group of people.
4. In most cases you’ll not see a real heart-felt love for the Jewish people, and the land of Israel.
5. They’ll seek to divide your congregation with the aim of spreading their distorted doctrines.
6. They might start to use weird names for God due to their fascination with the “Sacred Names Movement” This doesn’t include biblical names such as Elohim, El-Shaddai, El-Gibor etc.
7. Most of these Israelite identity groups stem from the USA, most are website based groups.
8. The Israelite Identity Cult claim to be Torah Observant, but sadly they lack any spiritual knowledge or discernment regarding the Torah.
But among the people there were also false prophets, just as there WILL be false teachers among you. Under false pretenses they WILL introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, and thus bring on themselves swift destruction. Many WILL follow their debaucheries; and because of them, the true Way WILL be maligned. In their greed they WILL exploit you with fabricated stories. Their punishment, decreed long ago, is not idle; their destruction is not asleep! 2nd Kefa (Pt) 2:1-3
But avoid stupid controversies, genealogies, quarrels and fights about the Torah; because they are worthless and futile. Warn a divisive persononce, then a second time; and after that, have nothing more to do with him. You may be sure that such a person has been perverted and is sinning: he stands self-condemned. Titus 3:9-11
I would encourage you to check out each of these ministries, you’ll find out that they condemn themselves with their false teachings. Please pray for those listed below that they might be able to rightly discern the word of truth, and be open to correction. One thing is for sure, the Word of God stands firm and steadfast when confronted with error. We also need to maintain our obedience to Torah commands in a manner that is clearly Biblical-but-distinct from Jewish expression so that we identify with Israel but not as Israel.
Three good articles by Derek Leaman:
Derek Leman: “As a non-Jew, if you feel a spiritual connection to Torah and the people of Israel (the Jewish people), this is a good thing. You don’t have to declare yourself an Israelite to draw near. You can come alongside the Jewish community, either from within the Christian Church or as members of Messianic and Judeo-Christian communities, and as a non-Jew you can respectfully join in Torah without taking on a pseudo-Jewish identity. And you are not to judge non-Jews who don’t make the same choice. Advocate for a love of Israel in Christianity, yes, but don’t try to make Christians into Israelites.”
The Wolves List:

Guest post by John Muncy:
DID THIS MORNING’S BLOOD MOON FUFILL PROPHECY? NO! More Reasons To Get Mad At Me, When You Should Be Getting Mad At The Other Guys!
I’m blown away with the amount of people who are falling for this blood moon obsession. The problem is few people actually take the time to read and reference their Bible. They are happy to let someone else TELL them what the Bible says, whether than read and study it for themselves.
Just a casual reading of the commonly pointed out passages about the blood moons would prove that this is NOT what happened today, or what happened back in April or what will happen next year with the next two blood moons!
Have YOU actually read the passages YOURSELF? Or are you like so many other Christians who let some preacher tell you what the Bible says and partially quotes a verse – most times, out of context – to prove his point.
Who do you believe about the blood moons? Some very famous TV preacher, “prophecy expert”, or the Lord Jesus Christ? Well, I’m sure you would claim you believe Jesus, but if you did, you would stop your silly notions about today’s blood moons being such a big prophetic thing. The blood moon that these guys are obsessed with is NOT the Biblical blood moons that the Bible warns about…
References to a moon like “blood” are found in two passages of the Bible. Let’s take a look at them, noticing that several other very serious things happen alongside the Biblical blood moon event:
Revelation 6:12-14 says, “And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and THE MOON BECAME AS BLOOD; And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.”
Did you notice the events with this blood moon? A great earthquake, the sun goes dark, and the stars fall from the sky, and the heaven rolls back like a scroll. DID THIS HAPPEN TODAY? No! Did this happen last April? No! The events listed here are catastrophic events that will alter the planet earth! This will throw the earth into massive turmoil and will be followed by several other horrible events, all a part of the great tribulation. THAT DIDN’T HAPPEN TODAY! Nor did it happen last April!
The other passage quoted is from Joel…
Joel 2:10, 30–31 says, “The earth shall quake before them; the heavens shall tremble: the sun and the moon shall be dark, and the stars shall withdraw their shining…The sun shall be turned into darkness, and THE MOON INTO BLOOD, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come…”
Notice the same set of events, earthquake, the sun darkened, and the stars fall – all of which happen right before the end of the world. Again, is this what happened with these current blood moons? NO! And next year’s blood moons won’t see these events either!!! How do I know?
Because Jesus tells us when this will actually happen!!
Jesus spoke of this event happening at the end of the world, following the events of the great tribulation! He tells us plainly in Matthew 24:29-30: “Immediately AFTER THE TRIBULATION OF THOSE DAYS the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then will appear in heaven the sign of the Son of Man, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.”
Here, Jesus indicates that these phenomena will take place at the end of the tribulation period shortly before He returns to Earth. Guess what? That didn’t happen today! Nor did it happen back in April! And it is impossible for the blood moons of next year to be this event our Lord was speaking of!!!
But one day this will happen. But it won’t be anything natural or normal. It won’t be like the blood moon that appeared early this morning. If the events above happened today, you can be certain – NO ONE would be sleeping through it!
Most of you were sleeping during the blood moon today! But you wouldn’t have if this was the blood moon Jesus was talking about! Your life and mine would be totally different today. No one would doubt this event was big time!
My advice is for some of you to stop following all these guys who are trying to sell books and DVDs, which end up getting donated to Goodwill. This blood moon fad right now is only going to last one more year, and then a new Christian fad will pop up to replace it and we will have another “dangling carrot” to keep the church moving into “greater revelation”.
THINK ABOUT IT! – John Muncy
I saw the news today that Pastor Ken Silva, the President of Apprising Ministries and author of the blog at www.apprising.org that we link to on the right has been called home to be with the Lord. I am torn between joy for my brother that he is free from the suffering of this life, safe in the arms of the Lord , and grief that I will have to wait until the Lord calls me home to meet one of the men who’s faithful handling of the word taught me so much from the time I just a baby as a Christian.
My prayers is that more and more of us will step faithfully and boldly into the proclamation of the truth as we are called. While we are all here to watch for the signs of the Lords let us never forget the object of our watching, and the one who we are to proclaim to the nations until he comes. I think if we remember the legacy of faithful Christian men and women that have come before us – and we remember Ken, they would want most to be remembered for pointing others to the truth of the Gospel.
“Don’t you say, ‘There are still four more months, then comes the harvest’? Listen to what I’m telling you: Open your eyes and look at the fields, for they are ready for harvest. John 4:35
I can imagine my brother received a hearty “well done my good and faithful servant” today from our Lord. I pray someday that all of you and I will hear the very same.
Linking to his second to last post here on the Power of Prayer . We are so blessed to serve such a powerful, loving and gracious God.
I had an email discussion with a friend the other day about the possibility that the Antichrist will not rule about over the whole world, all nations and people. The first reaction was the following:
Please show me in the Word that the AC WON’T rule the whole world ?
Rev 13 It was also given to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them, and authority over every tribe and people and tongue and nation was given to him.
All who dwell on the earth will worship him everyone whose name has not been written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who has been slain.
I just love to discuss the Word. My response was as follows:
I will try my best to show you why I have doubts about the Antichrist worldwide rule. I think it may be more regionally based with a worldwide influence. Consider the following verses:
Eze 32:4 “Then will I leave thee upon the land, I will cast thee forth upon the open field, and will cause all the fowls of the heaven to remain upon thee, and I will fill the beasts of the whole earth with thee.”
In this verse, we would not say that every single animal all over the world is going to be eating the bodies of the fallen. It is impossible. 99.99% of the ‘beasts of the earth’ will be living elsewhere
Luk 2:1 “And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.”
There was never a time when Caesar literally taxed all of the world.
1Ki 10:24 “And all the earth sought to Solomon, to hear his wisdom, which God had put in his heart.”
Another example of hyperbole to make a point. The entire literal earth did not seek after Solomon’s wisdom.
Dan 4:1 “Nebuchadnezzar the king, unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you.”
Nebuchadnezzar did not rule every single people and nation in the whole literal earth.
Rom 1:8 “First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world.”
Obviously, we know that the faith of Christ was not spoken throughout the whole literal world at this time.
When John was baptizing in Matt. 3: 5-6, we see something similar happening. We read, “Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judea, and all the region round about Jordan, And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.” This sounds as if every living soul in all of Judea, Jerusalem, and everyone in the region of Jordan were baptized by John. Where in reality it is a synecdoche letting us know that there was a very large number of people who were baptized by John. Judea is the whole Southern Kingdom of Israel, which at that time was Israel. We know for a fact that not everyone in Israel was baptized by John.
Obviously all doesn’t always mean literally all. Now the question remains; Will the AC rule over all/the whole world or just a part of the world. Is Rev 13 an exception to the rule? If the other examples in Scripture did not mean the literal earth/all/everyone, can we say that Rev 13 does mean a literal earth/all/everyone?
There is more, but I will leave you with this for now.
Please join this discussion.
