THE HEBREW ROOTS MOVEMENT – ANOTHER FALSE GOSPEL

Comment by Vic:

My previous post by John Muncy about “DNA music” was not appreciated by some an I removed it as not to use this site to discredit a man whom I have lots of respect for. Lets hope that this post can salvage his reputation and proof that he is not a new age heretic. 🙂
————————————————————————————————————
I remember my last time while flying to Israel I met a very interesting man. We were both talking about how excited we were to be going to the “Promise Land” and how great it will be to check out all the great places referred to in the Scriptures. He appeared to be a devote believer, so he said, and yet before long I found out that he believed the Apostle Paul was the worse thing that happened to the followers of Christ. He said that all the writings of the Apostle Paul – which make up the majority of the epistles – are wrong. I WAS DUMBFOUNDED! Little did I know I had encountered my first devotee of the “Hebrew Roots Movement”, a cult within the Christian Church.

In this man’s own words, he stated that Christians don’t really know the “real Jesus” nor do they understand the Bible. Conveniently, just like Mormonism, and all other cults, the Hebrew Roots Movement have their own “version” of the Bible, which of course, is the only version you are allowed to use.

There are several groups out there teaching their lies. One such group is from California, called “Last Trumpet Org Ministries”. They are one of the leading groups attempting to delegitimize the Apostle Paul, and while they may be the most overt, they are not alone in this teaching. Other groups, like “El Shaddai”, which was started by Mark Blitz, also condemn the Apostle Paul as herectical and his writings “deceive” the Christians.

One very clear aim of the Hebrew Roots movement is to drag you away from Mount Calvary and the finished work at the cross of Christ, and to keeping dragging you back before the cross, all the way back to Mount Sinai and place the yoke of the Law, (what they love to call the “Torah”), around your neck after Christ has freed you from it.

Here is Mark Blitz quoted directly from his website:
“My goal is not to convert Jews to Christianity but to bring non-Jews to a better understanding of YHVH through a better understanding of Torah. I think most Christians do not know YHVH as He really is but know Him as they have tried to create Him in their image rather than understanding they were created in His image. Many Christians believe they have a relationship with YHVH but they don’t. The time is coming when the Jewish people will recognize the role Yeshua played and they will then fulfill their mission in taking Torah to the nations. They will straighten out the Christians theology in what Yeshua was really saying. There will be Christians who will be saying what can these Jews know about Yeshua when in actuality you will have the correct understanding. In Christianity as you probably know there will be an antichrist and false prophet who deceive the world.”

No wonder these guys hate the Apostle Paul so much! He warn of their exact lies! He warned of those even in his day, that tried to force believers back into the Law and Paul stated that is was a “yoke of bondage”. Jesus Himself took that yoke of the Law off of our backs. Without a doubt, the “other gospel” that Paul warned against is rooted in the “Hebrew Roots” and “Sacred Name” movements.

These cults peach another gospel, a “gospel” without biblical salvation. You will be hard pressed to read or hear them say, “…Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved…” (Acts 16:31) That is not their focus. They want you to obey Torah. These cults actually have no “gospel” – no “good news”. It basically teaches you must “convert” to Judaism, and obey the Torah.

Again, from Mark Biltz”s website:
“I can’t speak for everyone but only for myself. First I would say that there probably really is no central goal of the Hebrew roots movement. Everyone is there for different multiple reasons. As long as you have humans and religions you will have multiple motives. I find some just want to build kingdoms to themselves not unlike some of the Pharisees and Sadducees and many Christian ministers of today. Here I am speaking of many of the leaders. Also, just like the multiple denominations in both Judaism and Christianity you can’t lump the Messianic/Hebrew Roots movements into one motivation. The central goal is to know YHVH and to make Him known. My goal is not to convert Jews to Christianity but to bring non-Jews to a better understanding of YHVH through a better understanding of Torah.”

As you just read, the “central goal is to know YHVH”? But, simply “knowing YHWH” (God) can only be a reality through Christ, who said He was the only way to God. (John 14:6) John 17:3 states very clearly, “And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.”

God’s FREE GIFT of salvation never came by “understanding” or keeping the Torah, it comes through Jesus Christ. Jesus said He was the door. He is the entryway to the Father, not the Torah. The Torah has no power in and of itself, other to accuse you as “guilty” before God. The Torah will not and cannot save you. The Torah only proves that we are sinful by nature and will never attain salvation by our deeds. Keep the Torah all you like, but if you are not SAVED, you are lost in your sins. The Bible is crystal clear on this.

I know this is going to be very offensive to a lot of people, but remember, it offended people in Jesus’ day as well. The followers of Torah were infuriated for the teachings of the Lord Jesus! They hated Him! So much so they killed Him for teaching it. And, of course, this is why they hated Paul so much! They killed Paul for teaching it. But it’s the truth, like it or not.

Salvation is through a person – Jesus – and not through keeping the Law or following the Torah. Paul said the Torah is good and it has its place. It’s important to remember, the Torah makes up less than 10% of the Bible. The Bible starts with the Torah, but it points to the Person of Christ in the end. The “greater than Moses” was one of His descriptions. The goal of the Bible is to lead you to Jesus, not lead you to the Torah. The Torah simply lets you know your lost condition; the solution to that problem is in the finished work of Jesus at the cross.

I hope this post helps you to see the real ambition of “Hebrew Roots” and the “Sacred Name” movements, and how serious their teachings deviate from the Scriptures. I hope this ultimately helps you to understand that the purpose and goal of God’s Word is not to lead you to the Torah, but to lead you to the One who wrote the Torah – THE LORD JESUS CHRIST.

He is the central theme of it all!

“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other NAME under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. ” Acts 4:12

Blessings upon you all today! – John Muncy

  1. I have never seen on this site, more display of lack of understanding or just outright ignorance of a particular subject. There are hundreds of thousands of people in the “Hebrew Roots Movement” who have not replaced Jesus with the Torah, who are not seeking to obey the Torah for their salvation, but because it is God’s righteous instruction, who are trusting Jesus entirely for their salvation but have discovered a rich heritage in the Old Testament, all of which points directly to the Jewish Messiah. As to your foolish and ridiculous comments regarding both the Hebrew Roots view of the Apostle Paul and the teachings of Mark Biltz at El Shaddai, it is obvious that either you don’t know how to read or listen, or you have willfully misunderstood. The views in the Hebrew Roots movement are as widely diverse as the those in Christian denominations, from the High Church positions of the Anglicans to the approach of the most fundamental groups. Time does not permit me to go point by point in this ‘expose’, but I hope to return and answer more specifically some of the baseless assertions presented here.

  2. It is true that we should be careful not to lump all folks together who follow certain movements. But it is a good to stay greatly distanced from extremes in many movements that appear.
it probably could be argued that One certain Pastor in San Antonio may be, I guess aligned to some degree with what could be described as Jewish Roots Ideas. But, aside from his prophecy ideas IMO is very sound in doctrine.

The warning has been given to avoid the kind of extremes mentioned at the beginning post.
And those warnings are reasonable and sound IMO.

  3. Some morning refreshment from today’s Worthy Brief…

    Walk in His righteousness!

Romans 5:17-19 For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ. Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life. For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.

Are you righteous? If you are truly a believer in the Lord, then you received His gift of righteousness! Righteousness is a gift we receive when we come to saving faith. Righteousness is not something we earn, but rather it’s a gift to be received from our Messiah! According to this passage, you have received the gift of righteousness through Him. Not because we have kept the “law” or lived a holy life . It can’t be bought with money, or earned through self-effort, or by doing “religious” works. It’s a gift!

And in His free gift of righteousness, we have right standing with God! When you walk in His righteousness, then you can approach His throne boldly – expecting the Lord to answer! The devil would love to bring up your sins and keep you bound thinking you can’t come to the Lord, however the Scripture is clear, “if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to CLEANSE US FROM ALL UNRIGHTEOUSNESS!” [1 John 1:9]

Don’t let the enemy bind you in sin – but claim fresh and anew today His gift of righteousness, approach His throne with boldness, and expect the Lord to answer – because you are walking in His gift of righteousness!

  4. Pat, There are many sides of this issue certainly. But since you are new here and have not fellow shipped in any of our discussions, perhaps you should refrain from such harsh judgments given here. I know many people who believe they are to worship from sundown Friday to Saturday etc like the real Israel as they see it. I see it that Jesus has become the sabbath rest for the people of God. And we are commanded to worship and obey him each day of the week. However, many others of the non hebrew roots would say no only Sunday. For one I am not bound by an man made rules and regulations even if they seem to come from the word of the Torah, old testament or new testament. I have seen much nonsensical judging going on from many of those who would place themselves in the hebrew roots movement as well. One day soon our Jesus will return to this earth.
While I do not always agree on everything that is posted here, I do know the hearts of the ones who post and would never judge them the way you have.
Just my opinion as to what I have seen and learned in my life.

  6. Pat is spot on I believe and I have been on this site for several years. I do not post much, mostly a lurker. I have heard many of Mark Blitz’s sermons. I have read many things on the El Shaddai web page. I have never seen him dog Paul or the NT. From what I have read and heard from Blitz is that he loves the Bible. Yes, he loves the Torah, but many Christians do not pay attention to the Torah. The Torah is a part of our Bible and is many important points that the typical Christian never gets or even pays attention to. There are Christians who never look at the OT unless it is read from on Sunday. This is wrong. The Torah points the way to Christ and that is what Blitz shows. He has several sermons showing how much Paul loved the Torah…. Blitz does not believe the Levetical law is required to be followed today. He does believe the Ten Commandments need to be followed. I whole heartily agree. The Sabbath is Friday sundown to Saturday sundown. God set this even before the Ten Commandments. We are to rest from our daily labors. It is supposed to be a day to worship and give glory to God. Yes, as Christians – even Jews actually, should do this daily.

The two quotes from Blitz’s site are taken out of context. I have not read everything or heard everything Blitz has said, but nothing I have heard or read is anti-Paul or NT.

  7. I know nothing of Mark Blitz, never heard of him before this post, but the warning not to get caught up in any movement that takes away from the truth of Jesus is a sound one. We have a man in our area that embraces the thinking that as Christians we must worship as the Old Testament commands. He totally alienates everyone and does no good in helping people better understand Christ or receive salvation. An understanding of the Old Testament certainly gives us a better understanding of Christ and should be studied but if Peter and Paul and Jesus saw ceremonial law as a burden then we need not get caught up in ceremonial law. I think this post is a good warning about that.

In Acts 20 meeting for fellowship and preaching on the 1st day of the week is mentioned and is alluded to in 1st Corinthians 16. Romans 14:6 tells us that we observe days unto the Lord and if we do not observe a certain day we do that unto the Lord also. I knew a guy who pioneered a church and they started out having their “main” service on Fridays. To tell people they must worship on Saturdays to truly be observant is legalistic and Biblically inaccurate. We absolutely should observe the Sabbath keep it Holy but I think God intends us to regard Him as Holy all the time so shouldn’t that make every day a Holy one??

  8. If the Lord said the 7th day is the Sabbath day from the very beginning of time. Then restated that in the 10 Commandments, don’t you think there would be something mentioned by the apostles or by Jesus himself that the Sabbath is no longer important. Instead you are going go by a vague reference in a chapter they the met together on a different day and say that the Sabbath is no longer relevant? Seriously. 1 Corinthians 16 does not state anything regarding the Sabbath or that the new Sabbath is Sunday. Romans 14 has nothing to do with the Sabbath. You have to read the entire chapter in context. Every reputable commentary I have ever read on Romans 14 says this has to do with the feast days and Levetical law.

People all the time say things like what you written. It is legalistic, yada yada, yada. We are called to be obedient to Him and to His Word. If you want to call me legalistic b/c of me trying to be obedient to the word, then go ahead. I will show you my faith by what I do.
God never ever has changed the Sabbath or how someone is supposed to treat the Sabbath.

No one never says “why don’t you steal”. Your response is “we are told not to in the Bible”. Response to that – “trying to follow the Bible is legalistic”. God wants obedience to Him and His Word.

Your last sentence has no argument. I stated “Yes, as Christians – even Jews actually, should do this daily.” We cannot argue with the Bible. The Bible says the seventh day is the Sabbath. Not me. If anyone can find where God changed it, please do.

Again, you can call it whatever you want, but it is being obedient not legalistic.

  9. I agree agie that we need to obey the Bible and perhaps I am a little jaded here because I have never dealt with anyone on a personal level that had ties to the “Hebrew Roots Movement” that wanted to do anything but argue. I personally believe you see in the New Testament where believers began to meet on the first day of the week and it appears to be sanctioned by the church leaders. You may be right and I will certainly pray it out and take another look at it because I want to live a Holy life before God but I have never been real focused on arguing over which day we should have church on and my admittedly limited contact with people from the movement described in this post that has seemed to be their only concern.

  10. Vic Wickus,

Thank you for posting this. You are spot on with your assessment. I deeply support what you have reported, and it’s also quite obvious that we have those in the Body of Christ who can easily be persuaded to follow doctrines that are “another gospel – or no gospel at all”.

May the overwhelming Love of Christ open up all of our understanding so that the truth may be know, and His Glory magnified.

  11. The ancient church as far back as writings are available did meet on the Lords Day…..it’s not a Roman Catholic corruption of church practices as some folks claim, they met to worship, as I said already, on the Lords Day.
Millerites, or Seventh Day Adventism began in the early 1830’s. The writings that are extant that are closest to the apostles (first three centuries) are clear, and the ancient church would have a better understanding then of Days they worshiped and of how the Sabbath was to be respected and understood in light of the Gospel.
My conscience is comfortable and settled in how the ancients worshipped….rather than the Modern Millerite understanding………each has their own unoffending choice before God.

  12. I’m in a bit of a quandary here as to where to start. I’ll try not to be quite as harsh and judgmental as I was in my first comments, but I am still absolutely astonished at the ignorance of John Muncy in regard to the Hebrew Roots movement. Perhaps there are those in the HRM (to save my fingers, we’ll understand this to be an abbreviation for the Hebrew Roots Movement) who see keeping Torah as a means to salvation. I haven’t run across anyone like that. It would certainly be a false gospel is that were true, but you can’t assign that belief to the everyone who is ‘digging their Hebrew roots.’ Nor have I run across anyone who thinks that the Apostle Paul is a false teacher. If anyone in the HRM thinks that they are misunderstanding Rabbi Sha’ul as completely as the Christians misunderstand who Paul was and what he was teaching. If he had ever contradicted the words of his Messiah as recorded in Matt 5:17-20 he wouldn’t have been worthy of inclusion in the inerrant Word of God.

“Other groups, like “El Shaddai”, which was started by Mark Blitz, also condemn the Apostle Paul as herectical and his writings “deceive” the Christians.”

Really? Really? If you think this, your research is worth a very large pile of horse feathers. Really? Mark Biltz is continually using the New Testament to illustrate Paul’s teaching of Torah. El Shaddai is committed to the whole Word of God cover to cover, Genesis to Revelation.

“One very clear aim of the Hebrew Roots movement is to drag you away from Mount Calvary and the finished work at the cross of Christ, and to keeping dragging you back before the cross, all the way back to Mount Sinai and place the yoke of the Law, (what they love to call the “Torah”), around your neck after Christ has freed you from it.”

I’m nearly, but not quite speechless, with the absolute untruth of the paragraph as it is applied to El Shaddai or any other Hebrew roots teaching I have been exposed to. Is there some group out there teaching this? Maybe. But if you’re reading this website you ought to be able to distinguish and discard such teaching and never listen to another word. You won’t get this from El Shaddai.

“No wonder these guys hate the Apostle Paul so much . . . . . ”

I repeat, “Really?” No one I’ve listened to in the HRM has ever indicated such a hatred. This is more misinformation, a mighty broad brush. Do the research yourself, brothers and sisters in the LORD.

“These cults peach another gospel, a “gospel” without biblical salvation. . . . ”

Are there HRM out there teaching this? I’ve not run across it and I’ve done a lot of research in the field. But do not hang this on El Shaddai. Jesus obeyed the Torah perfectly. If it’s good enough for him, it’s good enough for me. Am I saved by my obedience? NO. (BTW, exactly which parts do you object to?)

“As you just read, the “central goal is to know YHVH”? But, simply “knowing YHWH” (God) can only be a reality through Christ, who said He was the only way to God. (John 14:6) John 17:3 states very clearly, “And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.””

If you dug a little deeper, John Muncy, you’d know that all the Torah teaching at El Shaddai is used to point to Jesus/Yeshua.

“God’s FREE GIFT of salvation never came by “understanding” or keeping the Torah, it comes through Jesus Christ. . . . ”

No argument here. I hope you’re reading your Torah regularly to find out where your errors are. No salvation by keeping the Torah, Salvation by grace through faith. Jesus is the Way the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father but by him. Hallelujah.

“I know this is going to be very offensive to a lot of people, but remember, it offended people in Jesus’ day as well. The followers of Torah were infuriated for the teachings of the Lord Jesus! They hated Him! So much so they killed Him for teaching it. And, of course, this is why they hated Paul so much! They killed Paul for teaching it. But it’s the truth, like it or not.”

Those who were really upset with Jesus teachings were annoyed because he called them out on their hypocrisy. Jesus taught nothing but Torah in its true meaning and it exposed their state of sinfulness and pride. They hated Paul because he too showed them up and he took the Gospel to the Gentiles. The unbelieving Jews of his day cannot be compared to Jesus loving followers of the Torah today.

“Salvation is through a person – Jesus-and not through keeping the Law or following the Torah. . . .”

Too many words. Suffice it to say that neither I nor anyone I know or whose teaching in the HRM I have ever read or listened to have ever suggested that salvation comes any other way than through the LORD Jesus Christ.

John Muncy, you have taken the worst of the worst and painted a whole group of believers with a false brush. You may have kept many believers in Jesus from understanding who Jesus is in his Jewish context and discovering the richness of their faith and the beauty of God’s righteous instructions for us all. Jesus was born a Jew, lived a perfect Torah observant life, died a Jew and is coming back the KIng of the Jews, the Jewish Messiah. By the grace of God we’ve been grafted in. I hope and pray that you will take a closer look and repent of the slander you’ve been guilty of toward a whole group of people who love and adore the Son of God.

  13. Agie, thank you for your very well stated comments. Clearly, you have studied the Word and at some point were willing to challenge the assumptions of the ‘traditions of men rather than the commandments of God.” I am not a member of the HRM but I have learned to read my Bible and test everything. Jesus didn’t come to start a new religion, but to complete the work begun before the foundation of the world. We’ve made rather a mess of the whole thing. Thank God for his grace and his mercy. Where would we be without a Savior?

I’m sure that you, like me and every other person reading this seeks to walk as Jesus did, not for salvation, but because of it. Jesus kept the Torah perfectly. May we seek, as we say we do, to take him as our example, not for salvation but for the love of the Master.

  16. Shorttribber, (I have always enjoyed your ‘handle’ on this site. Am I right in reading it as short tribber, as opposed to shortt ribber?) I am not dogmatic on this point, but hope you consider that the first day the LORD set aside, the first thing he blessed in creation, although He called the previous things ‘good’, was the seventh day. In my rereading of my NT, I see no reason to call Sunday the LORD’s Day. The earliest believers did not have a 5 day work week, with a lovely 2 day weekend. They were in the habit of going to synagogue on Sabbath and then, when the sun went down at the close of the day and the beginning of a new day, met ‘on the first day of the week’. I don’t suppose they had the luxury of two days off, whatever was their work. When Jesus rose from the dead, He rose on Firstfruits, when the day of Pentecost (the Feast of Weeks) came, it came 50 days later, again on the first day of the week. The reason the Apostles on whom the Holy Spirit fell had such a very large audience is that the Jewish men were required to be in Jerusalem for that holy day. And the Holy Spirit came on them in power at 9 o’clock in the morning, the hour of the morning sacrifice. There is not one word from the teachings of Jesus or the Apostle Paul that the set apart day is anything other than the seventh day of the week as a holy day. Do not misunderstand me. It is not a matter of salvation. I do not judge anyone who worships on Sunday and does or does not set apart that day or any other. Nor do I in my heart of hearts look down my nose on people who think differently about this than I do. We are all responsible before God for our study or lack thereof, of what the Bible says on every subject. May we ask God daily, ‘Show me where I’ve missed an understanding of Who you are and how I am to live.’ Blessed be the Name.

  18. Romalyn, Within ten minutes of writing my first set of comments, I wondered if I had been unduly harsh. After all, a quiet answer turns away wrath. As I reconsider my original comments, I see that perhaps the words about ridiculous and foolish comments and having willfully misunderstood and not being able to read. were a bit over the top. May I never judge someone else’s motives. I will stand by the ridiculous and foolish comments but rescind that about willfull misunderstanding and not being able to read. I expect I was unfair to Mr. Muncy. I am a longtime reader of Unsealed Prophecy, although I have never commented before. I will defend myself against the charge of having judged the hearts of those who comment here. None of my original comments were directed at anyone’s heart or any reader’s comments, only at the broad sweep of condemnation of the HRM from the original author of the post. I appreciate the love and caring I have witnessed from time to time on this site. I recall a time when many of the people behind the names here were encouraging you in a time of great difficulty. How lovely to see the body of Christ caring for one another.

One of the greatest sins we must avoid with our utmost is that of spiritual pride. I have seen people in HR who had a real sense of superiority because of what they had learned or had begun to practice. I’ve seen just as much in Christianity, as we (I include myself in this) have boasted against the Olive Tree, as Paul warned us not to do. May we be continually open to and desirous of the Holy Spirit weeding our little heart gardens of all the weeds that grow there.

I’m with you on man made rules. When Jesus railed against the religious leaders of his day it was for their replacement of his commandments with their traditions. He didn’t scold them for keeping Torah, he scolded them for not keeping it because they had missed the heart of God, the love, justice, mercy for their fellow man. We have the Master and his words in Matt 5:17 – 20, by which to judge what he thinks about Torah. We will stand accountable not only for what we believe, but what we do. We will be saved by grace through faith, and that not of ourselves, but the gift of God. I thank God daily that he does not treat us as our sins deserve. Psalm 103.

    Be blessed.

  19. Derl A Hicks, I don’t want you to feel left out. I believe you have a valid point about HR people wanting to argue with other believers, particularly about sabbath and eating clean. It’s that old bugbear spiritual pride, more than wanting to share new discoveries, that leads any of us, from time to time to be positively obnoxious about any new epiphany. I plead guilty. I also plead guilty to having been unwilling, until the Holy Spirit began to take me there, to thinking that everyone who kept Sabbath or ate clean, was ‘under the law.’ I have a new understanding which I will not go into here. With regard to first day of the week, I said enough in my reply to Shorttribber to hopefully help you reconsider. We’ve read the New Testament through Gentile eyes too long. With the exception of Dr. Luke who was probably a proselyte to Judaism, although he may have been just a God fearing Gentile follower of Jesus, the entire New Testament is written by Jews. We have not understood their mindset or the larger historical and geographic context in many instances. Any apparent disapproval of the law, even the ceremonial law, has to do with the man made additions that had turned it into a burden. That’s why Jesus said “Take my yoke upon you and learn of me. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” John says in 1 John “In fact, this is love for God, to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome.”

It takes fallen man to take a beautiful thing like God’s righteous instructions, which, by the way is what Torah means, not ‘law’, and make it into a burdensome thing. You might be interested in the other place ‘burdensome’ is used in the Nearly Inspired Version, more commonly known as the NIV, Isa 46:1.

Keep reading, but try a Believing Jewish point of view. You might be surprised at what you find.

    thanks brother.

just catching up and see a lot has been going on….and i see Grace is having it’s way with this topic. pat and agie i must say i agree with you and anyone who is finding grace to lend to this topic. if i had seen/heard “jewish” tradition (being repackaged as the Gospel) being upheld above Christ in mark biltz teaching i would have had a major problem with that too. i do not follow that ministry but have been blessed at times by it-so far so good-i do not have a bone to pick with that ministry. i pray we all do profess and live out the Gospel we have been saved and kept by-in knowing Jesus was the Ultimate Jew-our Covenant Keeper-not we ourselves. apostle paul was so particular to explore all of his much learning as a hebrew of hebrews turned believer-because he was apprehended by Christ and found the “want to” rather than the “have to” about God’s Beautiful Law-becoming a God pleaser and not a man pleaser-apprehended to press toward the mark of the high calling in Christ Jesus. chp 3 of phil is so eloquent and hebrew 6:1 urges us to go on to maturity. oh praise God for the Holy Spirit Who Is how all that happens in us–that is for sure 🙂 i am glad for this conversation-it is right to discern everything carefully–the days are evil–but i want to go forward graciously-remembering to uphold the Cross of Christ that Jesus may be seen-not me. 21. Baldy, (Mr. Baldy would seem so much more respectful. Wasn’t that your previous ‘handle’?) I have been warned by Romalyn not to be harsh so I will tread softly here, being the new ‘poster.’

“Thank you for posting this. You are spot on with your assessment.I deeply support what you have reported . . . ”

Is this your assessment, too, through much careful research?

“. . . and it’s also quite obvious that we have those in the Body of Christ who can easily be persuaded to follow doctrines that are “another gospel – or no gospel at all”.

I for one, have not been persuaded to follow any false doctrine or any other gospel. For some strange reason we seem to have elevated Paul’s words which appear to Christians to be anti-Torah, above the words of Jesus who said “Do not think I have come to abolish the Law and the Prophets, but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of the pen will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.” (Not only are heaven and earth still here, but while the personal redemptive work is finished, I know I’m not the only one here who is looking for the rest of the fulfillment, which is the blessed return of our LORD and Saviour Jesus Christ.)

The apostle Paul never once said anything that contradicted that statement made by Jesus nor were any of his teachings anti-Torah. Read and reread and read again the book of Acts. You will see the Jewish Rabbi Sha’ul. So much of the New Testament is about how to bring Gentiles into the body of Messiah. They didn’t lead with the law. They led with salvation by grace through faith. They had all kinds of immorality issues to deal with. The four restrictions about no strangled meat, no blood, no fornication, no meat sacrificed to idols were placed on Gentiles so they could have table fellowship with Jews who were the first believers in Jesus. They were the minimum standard, not the maximum. Apparently, Paul thought that through being in the synagogues where Moses was read on a weekly basis. Acts 15:19-23 is the definitive passage on this.

I have said enough. Most of you may think it’s been more than enough, already. Permit me to leave you with Baldy’s wonderful closing. Blessings to you all.

“May the overwhelming Love of Christ open up all of our understanding so that the truth may be know, and His Glory magnified.”

  24. Shorttribber, I came to Unsealed Prophecy originally because of the work done by Herb Peters on Javier Solana, the ENPi, and related information. When I began to look at my Hebrew Roots in maybe 2009, I discovered some amazing keys to prophecy. In a very small nutshell I was introduced to the concept that if Jesus had fulfilled the Spring Feasts, Passover, Unleavened Bread, Firstfruits and Pentecost (Shavuot) in his First Coming, might we not expect the Second Coming to Fulfill the Fall Feasts of the LORD. I think one of the very best explanations of the Feasts in written form is at voiceofjudah.com. It’s an excellent site, friendly to all believers in Jesus. I would not characterize it as a Hebrew roots site. Check it out if you have an interest. Understanding the Feasts of the LORD will open your understanding of prophecy.

  25. How easily it is to get trapped into following any new doctrine, discovery or lawful biblical aids when you don´t love the Lord Jesus Christ and truly have a wide spiritual knowledge of Him. Beware of the false prophets who put anything above Christ promising you to find the way!!! This is a lie!!! All is in Christ and He alone is all and all !!! You don´t need any extra help from anything or anybody; hebrew roots might clear me concepts, contexts and historical facts–but that´s about all it may do. What you cannot find in Christ you´ll never find out of Christ!!! Let´s be very watchful and fearful of what we are digesting out from the Scriptures. I feel Mark Blitz´s position is not fully grounded and rooted in Christ–but this is just a subjective appreciation that I get after I listen to him. If he isn´t bringing jews to Christ…he doesn´t understand the law itself which points to the Messiah, and if he thinks that in order to enlighten the way for christians it´s suitable to study the hebrew roots, then he´s NOT definitely in Christ and he –with all his interesting hebrew culture is a FALSE PROPHET and will mislead you to dead works and traditions which only harden you and elevate you with empty information. If he truly wants to lead the Christians then he better be Christ´s loyal disciple and guide the believer to Yeshuah simply because Christ is the way, the truth and the life.

  27. If we are to contend for the faith once delivered to the saints, then Yeshua was the one who came and was our example. Shouldn’t we be following what Yeshua actually taught? What did He teach? He taught in the Synagogue on the 7th Day when He opened the Scrolls and read from them. He kept the 7th Day which His Father blessed, made holy and sanctified. Yahweh (God) never changes. He did not change the original 7th Day Sabbath; man did, i.e. the Catholic Church. Yeshua also kept His Father’s dietary laws of clean and unclean; as well as His Father’s appointed times; his Holy/Feast Days.
Those in mainstream Christianity do not follow what Yeshua taught. They do not walk as Yeshua walked. Yeshua said, “Why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?
Here is the entire verses from Luke 6:46.
    “Builders and Foundations”
46“Why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? 47“Everyone who comes to Me and hears My words and acts on them, I will show you whom he is like: 48he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid a foundation on the rock; and when a flood occurred, the torrent burst against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. 49“But the one who has heard and has not acted accordingly, is like a man who built a house on the ground without any foundation; and the torrent burst against it and immediately it collapsed, and the ruin of that house was great.”
Why do you think we are seeing, “The Great Falling Away from the Faith?” Because mainstream Christianity is not build upon the Solid Rock, the Cornerstone. Even Pastors are having nervous breakdowns or being trapped in the “snare of the Fowler” when caught in acts of adultery, pornography, homosexuality and with prostitutes.
And what about the congregants who still live and walk in sin? This should send up “Red Flags” and cause us to look for answers.
Is it possible that those who are attacking the “Hebrew Roots Movement” are missing the log in their own eye while seeing the speck in ours?

  33. Lie #1 not really debunked Vic if you continue in the text you will see exactly what the writer of Hebrews was trying to say.Hebrews 4:9-11… So there remains a Shabbat-keeping for God’s people. 10 For the one who has entered God’s rest has also rested from his own works, as God did from his. 11 Therefore, let us do our best to enter that rest; so that no one will fall short because of the same kind of disobedience.

This is not talking only about the weekly Sabbath but also the rest we get by following the Torah and the rest we will have when we enter into the millennium rule. This verse is not about Sabbath keeping it is about being obedient. The reason the Israelites did not enter into the “Sabbath” rest was because of disobedience. The whole passage is about the satisfaction we will have by keeping Torah and being obedient.

By the way, we don’t follow the “Torah (i.e. God’s instructions) for salvation we follow them because we are saved. James 2:17-18,17 Thus, faith by itself, unaccompanied by actions, is dead. 18 But someone will say that you have faith and I have actions. Show me this faith of yours without the actions, and I will show you my faith by my actions! James 2:20-24, 20 But, foolish fellow, do you want to be shown that such “faith” apart from actions is barren? 21 Wasn’t Avraham avinu declared righteous because of actions when he offered up his son Yitz’chak on the altar? 22 You see that his faith worked with his actions; by the actions the faith was made complete; 23 and the passage of the Tanakh was fulfilled which says, “Avraham had faith in God, and it was credited to his account as righteousness.” He was even called God’s friend. 24 You see that a person is declared righteous because of actions and not because of faith alone.

Our actions of following Torah is proof of our FAITH and our SALVATION!

  36. Hisown1 This preacher doesn’t even know what the Gospel (Good News) really is. The Good News is that the “Lost Sheep of Israel” can now return to their “husband” because Yeshua died on the cross canceling “ordinances” in the LAW that were against them. He did this by His death and then being resurrected.

Deuteronomy 24:1-4 – “Suppose a man marries a woman and consummates the marriage but later finds her displeasing, because he has found her offensive in some respect. He writes her a divorce document, gives it to her and sends her away from his house.[2] She leaves his house, goes and becomes another man’s wife;[3] but the second husband dislikes her and writes her a get, gives it to her and sends her away from his house; or the second husband whom she married dies.[4] In such a case her first husband, who sent her away, may not take her again as his wife, because she is now defiled. It would be detestable to YHVH, and you are not to bring about sin in the land YHVH your God is giving you as your inheritance.

In Jeremiah 3:8 God divorced Israel (the Northern Kingdom) because of her idolatry (adultery). However YHVH had a covenant with Abraham and He would not break that covenant; therefore because YHVH could not remarry Israel He had to send His Son to die in His stead so that He could keep His promise to Abraham.

It has nothing to do with you or your theology or the Christians in general it is all about Israel coming back into covenant with YHVH. Yeshua or Jesus did not die to bring in a “New Religion called Christianity, He died to bring back the House of Israel into covenant with YHVH. Matthew 15:24 – He (Yeshua) said, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Isra’el.”

Romans 7:1-6 tell the whole story…Romans 7:1-6 – Surely you know, brothers – for I am speaking to those who understand Torah – that the Torah has authority over a person only so long as he lives?[2] For example, a married woman is bound by Torah to her husband while he is alive; but if the husband dies, she is released from the part of the Torah that deals with husbands.[3] Therefore, while the husband is alive, she will be called an adulteress if she marries another man; but if the husband dies, she is free from that part of the Torah; so that if she marries another man, she is not an adulteress.[4] Thus, my brothers, you have been made dead with regard to the Torah through the Messiah’s body, so that you may belong to someone else, namely, the one who has been raised from the dead, in order for us to bear fruit for God.[5] For when we were living according to our old nature, the passions connected with sins worked through the Torah in our various parts, with the result that we bore fruit for death.[6] But now we have been released from this aspect of the Torah, because we have died to that which had us in its clutches, so that we are serving in the new way provided by the Spirit and not in the old way of outwardly following the letter of the law.

The very first verse states that Paul is speaking to those that know the Law or Torah. If you don’t know the LAW or Torah then more than likely you are not going to understand what Paul is trying to say.

  38. Colleen you wrote this:

    “A “Christ-less “Christianity .
When KEEPING the law { or obeying God’s commands / good deed} adds to the FINISHED work of Christ on the Cross.”

Please forgive me, but unless I have misunderstood what you have written it appears as if you are saying that “obeying God’s commands – adds to the FINISHED work of Christ on the Cross”.

If you are saying this, then I think I know where you are coming from, but it needs to be qualified – or else what do you do with:

    John 14:15 – which reads:
“If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.”

    AND:

    James 2:14 – 17 which reads:

    “Faith Without Works Is Dead”

    14) What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? 15) If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, 16) and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good[a] is that? 17) So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.”

The aforementioned passages of Scripture are just examples of when one comes to Christ the good “works” that they do come from having a Relationship with Him. Not that the good “works” saves you by any means. Some believe that the “Finished Work” of Christ gives them a license to sin – which it does not. But also if one believes that they have to do good works to obtain Salvation – then they lack the understanding of Scripture as well.

Where deception could come in is when one “thinks” that his or her good works will save them – and they actually don’t KNOW Christ. In contrast to this is when we do have a sincere Relationship with Christ, then the good works will be manifested in our lives – as it is the Holy Spirit who dwells in us that causes us to do those things which are in obedience to Christ. There is no Law in this kind of Relationship with Christ. His Grace has saved us, and is sufficient when we do sin. Even though each of us sin, the wooing of the Holy Spirit that dwells in us causes us to repent of our sins – therefore we do not make it a practice to sin, and remain in it.

We are saved by Grace – absolutely no doubt about it. But we must be careful not to live a life in such a way as we have a license to sin – if we are doing this, we are instructed to check ourselves to see if we are still in the Faith. (2 Corinthians 13:5)

    2 Corinthians 13:5 reads:

“Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test!”

So in closing, I don’t want to sound like a legalist – or a Christian that says that we must obey the Law in order to be saved. But there is a manifestation or evidence of those who have a Relationship with Christ that obviously shows when we are IN HIM. If we Truly Belong to Him the Fruit of the Spirit will be manifested in our daily lives.

    Galatians 5:18-25 reads:

“18) But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19) Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20) idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, 21) envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23) gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24) And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25) If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.”

I believe that Paul is quite clear here in his letter to the Galatians when he warns that Body of Christ that those who practice the works of the flesh “will not inherit the kingdom of God”. He goes on to mention how “those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh” – and that we should live by the Spirit.

  39. This is from Coffman’s Commentaries on Galatians…Any notion that Paul relaxed or countermanded this truth is erroneous. The relationship between the Jews and the Law of Moses, as contrasted with the relationship between the Christian and the “law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:2), lies only in this: (1) if the Jew did his best to live up to the law (and failed, as all must fail), he nevertheless stood condemned anyway; (2) but if the Christian does his best to keep all of the commandments of the gospel (failing in particulars, as all must fail), he is nevertheless justified and remains uncondemned, because through his identity with Christ “in Christ” and “as Christ,” the righteousness of Christ, with whom the true Christian is fully identified, stands in the stead of his own failure, saving his soul anyway. But in such a conception there is no relaxation whatever of the eternal rule that obedience to God is the sine qua non of salvation. In Christ, the obedience is provided by Christ, but certainly not on behalf of those who refused to obey, believed that they were not required to obey, or who through indifference and neglect never got around to obeying. The great fallacy of salvation by “faith only” is that it utterly removes from human hearts all concern whatever with regard to keeping the commandments of the Lord. Paul thunders the refutation of that fallacy throughout his writings, as in this example:

Rest with us at the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with the angels of his power in flaming fire, rendering vengeance to them that know not God, and to them that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus (2 Thessalonians 1:7,8).

Furthermore, the necessity of obedience (to the fullest extent of human ability) in order to be saved, does not make man his own Savior; because the Christian, no more effectual than the Jew, is simply not able to give perfect compliance to God’s teachings. Thus, all salvation is by grace, without human merit, unearned and incapable of being earned. Despite this, how can any man be saved who has consciously rejected for himself any requirement whatever that God has enjoined upon man? On the basis that he merely believed? Even devils believe (James 2:19).

(how could you or i ever presume/assume to even remotely equal Jesus in Sacrifice? how proud and blasphemous is that?)…….but…in dealing with one another we must beware the spirit of the pharisee who is always inspecting fruit–God alone sees the heart of man and knows the motive behind all he thinks, says and does. God tells us to *note the things (words and works) that do not bear witness of the Spirit and avoid them (and expose and rebuke if His Spirit leads us to do that–with Truth with Grace-oh may i be extra careful there-and sometimes-God forgive me i have not). i believe it does not mean that i am to go to and fro purposely looking for those things about others but to stick to guarding my own heart (& test my own walk). mr baldy i so appreciate what you shared:

i appreciate that general open appeal because it is correct that any may apply it to their own motives to judge their own hearts before the Holy Word of God. i have had to ask myself many times if i was too harsh on another all the while trying to give a “pass” to myself—oh it hurts when the Spirit exposes these things to me and i am (still)learning it is not my job to determine someone else’s motives for the good they may or may not be doing–the Lord’s Holy Eyes are looking for faith on the earth. (will He find it?-find it in me?) faith in Him or faith in myself (my “right” thinking/doing) is the question then??? faith alone pleases God as in hebrews 11:6. it is impossible to impress God with our works for His Spirit is the Power of Righteous in any one of us who belongs to Him by Faith in the Perfect Work of Christ the Son. love to you all in His Dear Name.

In 2 Corinthians 6; 14 – 16 is an appeal to believers not to be equally yoked w/ unbelievers, because they are the temple of the living God. An appeal to set the affections on things above and not on things on the earth is based on one of the strongest statements in the Bible concerning the Eternal Security of the believer in these words; ” set your affections on things above and not on the earth, for ye are dead, and your life is ‘hid’ with Christ in God ” [ Col. 3:2,3 ]. Can anyone be more secure than the one who has been hidden in God so that nothing can touch him?………..It would seem, then, that worldliness in the church today is chargeable to failure to teach the doctrines of the “grace’ of God” which are inseparable from the Truth of Eternal Security. As denial of the truth of eternal security makes it impossible to teach these doctrines in their fullness, it follows that those who teach against that truth are contributing to the present state of worldliness in the churches.

In hiding w/ Jesus in the Father, we have a mind of our own; the mind of Christ, with eternity in our hearts[He put it there]and a HOPE that cannot be divided by despair, we abide in Christ confidently because of who He is, as we go around from day to day celebrating His victorious resurrection in our broken lives,…..our Father rolled away the stone….and Jesus lives….and we talk about it every where we go, for all the world to see the HOPE that is in us! *

Jesus said we would be known for the love we have for one another. Not too much of that around anymore as the love of many have gown cold .

  59. This is the very reason I got out of the so called Christian church how many people will be standing before Christ in strange apparel on the day of Judgement- I have never heard Mark Biltz ever speak against Paul and I do not hear another Gospel I hear the truth. Mark Biltz only brings out the new testatment truth thru the Old Testament or Torah teachings letting us see Christ in the Old Testament and bringing the entire bible in harmony how ignorant this man is who wrote the article I will pray for your soul and hope God opens your eyes and another thing read the new testament again all thru the new testament the apostles and Jesus never said the Law was abolished. Jesus continually told everyone to keep his commandments what do you think that means?

  60. Personally, so far I find nothing amiss in El Shaddai ministries and Pastor Mark Biltz.

One of the attributes of the L-rd Jesus Christ, to my understanding, was His singular observance of Torah. Jesus Himself said He was “…come not to destroy the Law and the Prophets, but to fulfill.” and which, “…while the Earth remains, not one jot nor tittle will pass… until all be fulfilled”. If we are to be emulators of Him, how better than to learn Torah and to live it and love it?

I no way do I maintain that Torah observance is in any way salvific. For our salvation we are dependent our L-rd and Savior, Jesus Christ, because “our righteousness is filthy rags” and because “no one can come to the Father, but by Him.

Nevertheless, I do think that keeping Torah and heeding the commands of the L-rd Jesus Christ, through the power of the Holy Spirit, can make one’s life answerable to his or her confession of faith if Our L-rd and Savior, Jesus Christ, and bring glory to G-d the Father.

Seeing this manifest, and feeling the judgemental hatred from so many people who claim I don’t know God or His Son-

I call Jesus Yêhôshûa & Ëlôâh Yêhôwâh is my Father, but not because some movement told me so- because the Holy Bible & Strong’s concordance revealed it to me in a Holy Spirit-Led study, and legalism isn’t pushing me to convert the masses, or tell them Jesus isn’t given ALL POWER & AUTHORITY!
