The real Jesus

While browsing through Facebook this little picture caught my attention. I started to read the comments left by Christians, comments like “I so needed this, thanks”, “Amen”, Oh thank you Jesus”, etc.

While looking at the picture and reading the comments, I felt sick and disgusted. This is not the only picture of its kind on Facebook. There are millions. Is the deception really so evident ? Is it me falling from grace? What is wrong with such a sweet picture that repulse me so much?

Now lets look at the real problem. What do you see in the picture? Be honest with yourself. Do you see Jesus comforting a little girl? All I see is the imaginations of someones mind drawn unto paper, someones likeness and idea of what he thinks Jesus looks like. This is not Jesus. It is an abomination unto the Lord!

Deu 5:8 Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth:

Deu 27:15  Cursed be the man that maketh any graven or molten image, an abomination unto the LORD, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and putteth it in a secret place. And all the people shall answer and say, Amen

It is for a reason that God commanded us not to make some image of Him or anything in heaven. Nobody knows what Jesus looks like. Any picture in your mind of what you think He looks like is an idol. Any picture of Him is an abomination and an idol. Focus on His written Words and get rid of all this silly pictures of Him.

PS. The picture used is for illustrative purposes only and is not a likeness of Jesus.

  1. Vic, I would agree for the most part concerning pictures like this. However, at least the way that I was brought up, I would not completely throw out every depiction of Jesus on the ground that they are graven images. Images are worth a thousand words and can be used to teach people who we may not share the same language about the gospel. I do admit many depictions of Christ cause people to envision that during prayer or worship,, especially this one http://www.myagape4u.com/images/mfp-sacred_heart.jpg . However there is a difference between worshiping and using an image. I think films would fall under the category of “image” as well. However, the image that was posted and many others just like it concern me as well. It seems like its just another way of “cheapening” Christianity. I mean all the image is basically about is God’s omnipresence. What needs to be posted on sites like Facebook is the core message of the gospel. Sure the image is a nice reminder for Christians who “get it” that God is always present, but to the unsaved I, it leaves a lot to be desired. Basically something like “God is everywhere, so what?” I feel as the people of Christ, we need to present the Gospel first and foremost because after one accepts Christ, all the other doctrines make sense. Sorry if this sounds like rambling. I usually don’t post that much :).

  2. Personally, I think you are reaching unless the picture was being worshiped or something similar. The verses you provide above speak to making something your idol, worshiping something. Just b/c there is a picture of Jesus does not make it such. Just a tad sensitive imo.

  3. Leo, you raise valid points but I still have problems with them. True, the Jesus films reach big audiences and true it may serve a good purpose. My wife also raised the argument that the pictures are nice to teach children about Jesus, so how can it be wrong?

Well, I don’t have a better argument than to say that if God said don’t do it, rather not do it. It is only our modern generation that have the capabilities to to produce mass pictures and spread them over the internet or to mass produce cute children Bibles or movies. The other 1900 years of spreading the Gospel it was done by words and reading of available scriptures. It was only the RCC (as far as I know) that had reasons for making statues and paintings. Well, they pray to the Queen of Heaven, so enough said.

Hey, don’t worry about rambling. It is nice to read your thoughts.

  4. Agie, that is my point. It is a picture of a man with a beard a bathrobe and long hair. The assumption is that it is Jesus. Jesus is not a handsome man with long hair and a beard. He is a consuming fire. People have dreams of this types of people talking to them and then they are sure it is Jesus as he had long hair a beard and a bathrobe.

If you have a picture like this in your mind when you pray, it is an idol.

  6. Jesus did spend time on earth. There is an image. No, we do not have any photographs, but there is still an image of Jesus as a human.

For the record, I do not pray to Jesus. I pray to God b/c of Jesus. I certainly do not have any images of God….well….thinking about it I guess I have one…I see a throne with a brilliant light radiating from it. I definitely do not worship it though.

  7. This has potential to spark and make people mad… By No means am I attempting to stir up a hornet’s nest, but take an opportunity to think outside the box and consider if you will what I’m pointing out…

Lucifer was a beautiful angel of light (2 Cor. 11:14)… What better way to deceive then to deceive the children and those in the Church… btw… Satan could care less about those outside the Church… They are in essence already taken care of…

Question: What if the Beast wanted you to worship this image?

    Revelation 13:13-15

13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,

14 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.

15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.

Question: Isn’t the Holy Spirit likened to Fire? How could Satan deceive us here?
Question: Was Christ wounded and live? False Christs preached….?
Question: What if this image is the Antichrist? How many religions have this picture of Jesus as their image?
Question: Will not (God=Jesus) Judge and put to death all that do not recognize him?

Satan is a master at deception… Again think spiritually and not physically…

Wickus you have every reason to fell sick… We all should feel sick, and the reason is because we have been hit where it hurts, we’ve been suckered punched…

  9. Here is what Jesus looks like now in all of His Glory,

Rev 1:13 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.
    Rev 1:14 His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire;
Rev 1:15 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.
Rev 1:16 And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp two edged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.
Rev 1:17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead.

And our Abba Heavenly Father of Lights,

Rev 4:2 And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne.
Rev 4:3 And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald.

  10. And He had NO beauty that we should desire Him .

    🙂

Isa 53:2 — For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.

  11. Cole, I’ve searched for the discussion of “Heaven is for real” but no luck.

This is one of those dividing posts, but I am gonna stick with what I have said in the original post. I can not see any good in these images of Jesus.

Elo from whence doth another call a brother a ” idiot “…be very careful and you may want to heed this warning-

Mat 5:22 — But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

  16. telling the truth this days is not an insult, accept that you are wrong sometimes,am not against anybody.
    Luke 6:27-36 (New International Version)

    Love for Enemies
27 “But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 29 If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. 30 Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. 31 Do to others as you would have them do to you.
32 “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. 33 And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. 34 And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. 35 But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. 36 Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

i hold this passage in my heart , you dont know me and i dont know you.you got offended because i was right. we can be idiot sometimes and take things to far and out of context and that is what you are doing. just try not tobe legalistic cause is not from god. just stick with the word 100% and stand up for the truth in love. let me ask you this if you cant handle a simple word like idiot which i did nit meant it personally, i wonder was going to happen to you when you are persecuted. am with you in prayer brother or no brother .
