Another warning against TBN

Friends, there has been many warnings about Christian Television and especially TBN. Today I want to share another one with you. It is written by Dave Hunt. I found it on Facebook, so the link will only work for those with Facebook accounts. Here is Dave:

“Praise the Lord” on TBN

Some time back, I witnessed on television a most tragic and shocking spectacle. On his “Praise the Lord” program before an international audience (most of whom apparently approve or they wouldn’t lend their support), the leader of the world’s largest Christian TV network vehemently denounced and in fact cursed any who would speak out for sound doctrine or who would seek to correct erroneous teaching. Here is a brief excerpt from that astonishing outburst:

“…that old rotten Sanhedrin crowd, twice dead, plucked up by the roots…they’re damned and on their way to hell and I don’t think there’s any redemption for them…the hypocrites, the heresy hunters that want to find a little mote of illegal doctrine in some Christian’s eyes…when they’ve got a whole forest in their own lives….

I say, “To hell with you! Get out of my life! Get out of the way! Quit blocking God’s bridges! I’m tired of this!…This is in my spirit. Oh, hallelujah!”…

Have you ever seen the old movie, Patton?…He’s my hero, he’s my hero. Old nail-chewin’, tobacco-chewin’, cussin’ Patton—but he read the Bible every day. I have a feeling we’ll see old General George in heaven….

There’s a wonderful scene in Patton …they’re trying to get the Third Army across the bridge in France and there’s an old, dumb jackass—donkey—right there on the bridge and it’s blocking the whole convoy of troops…General George roars up, pulls that ivory-handled revolver out…and he shoots the donkey….

There’s a spiritual application here….I want to say to all you scribes, pharisees, heresy hunters, all of you that are going around picking little bits of doctrinal error out of everybody’s eyes and dividing the Body of Christ…get out of God’s way, stop blocking God’s bridges…or God’s going to shoot you if I don’t…let Him sort out all this doctrinal doodoo!

I don’t care about your doctrines as long as you name the name of Jesus, as long as you believe He died dead [sic] and was buried but came out of the tomb on Sunday morning and ascended to the Father…I don’t care about anything else! Let’s join hands…to get this gospel preached in all the world….

The rest of this stuff is what Paul the Apostle calls dung—human excrement! It’s not worth anything! Get rid of it…and get on with winning the lost….

I refuse to argue any longer with any of you out there! Don’t even call me if you want to argue doctrine, if you want to straighten somebody out…criticize Ken Copeland…or Dad Hagin. Get out of my life! I don’t even want to talk to you…I don’t want to see your ugly face!”

Appalling as this performance was, it is necessary to recognize and confront the rationale, however emotional and perverted, behind the outburst. Indeed we would agree that zeal to evangelize the world is commendable and commanded—but with what gospel? By denouncing sound doctrine as unimportant and unrelated to the gospel, most of the New Testament was renounced. Is it not a compendium of doctrinal truth? The doctrinal correction that was so vehemently cursed is the very essence of Paul’s epistles. In fact, Paul declared that all of Scripture is intended for “doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness (2 Tim:3:16). He told Timothy to “reprove, rebuke, exhort with…doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine” (2 Tim:4:2-3). Apparently that time is now upon us!

Comment by Vic:

Friends, it breaks my heart to say this, but don’t trust Christian leaders. Trust the Lord only and get the truth from the Bible. Test the spirits. The whole TBN crowd is going to hell and they are dragging many with them. Stay away! Stay away!

  1. He obviously prefers his abberrant teaching to the word of Truth. Friends – remember you can’t mix any lie with the Gospel and have it still be the Gospel.

How is it that you fail to understand that I did not speak about bread? Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” Then they understood that he did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
    (Matthew 16:11-12 ESV)

How much leaven does it take to spoil the whole loaf – how much leaven does it take to make a whole batch of bread rise.

You were running well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth? This persuasion is not from him who calls you. A little leaven leavens the whole lump. I have confidence in the Lord that you will take no other view, and the one who is troubling you will bear the penalty, whoever he is.
    (Galatians 5:7-10 ESV)

Mr. Hunt seeks to argue the the full counsel of scripture is not important as long we assent to a phrase he makes empty by stripping it of all the meaning invested to it by God’s truth. If we were not desperate condemned sinners why would we not need a savior to go from death to life? If we love the Lord – what are we to do?

If you love me, you will keep my commandments. John 14:15

Reject those that tell you to listen to them and try to pry the Words of God from your grasp.

  2. Dr Hunt speaks well of the way TBN is going down the drain. To win in spiritual warfare we must use God’s tools and handle them wisely.

    2 Timothy 4:3
For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.
    Titus 1:9
He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it.

There is little of sound doctrine to be had on TBN. A sorry place for sheep to pasture.

  3. no kidding—so shallow with the Gospel and off the deep end with their flesh and the world–that’s on a good day—most of the time it is neck deep in absolute heresy if you ask me. cannot stomach watching that channel. God gets no Glory there.

  4. Years ago I could not believe how bad these guys were, and they have continued to the point that I can not fathom why anyone who reads their bible could support such nonsense. Sad day for the church, that people would think this is what we represent, but we know the bible warns of this and seems somethings had begun before the Apostle Paul passed.

  5. I quit watching this stuff a long time ago. My husband and I have encouraged others to do the same. This is a sad commentary on the direction that so much of the organized church has chosen to follow. I believe strongly that God is calling out those who will hear to follow Him and Him only. He is truly preparing the church to meet her king and I believe that time is very soon.

  6. Amen Brenda and to all 🙂

Are we surprised? is this just not the ” fruit” that the Lord is exposing and the skirt’s being lifted? Does God not expose before He judges?

I shared my heart with a few believers this morning and wanted to share that here as well 🙂

The five foolish virgins- Religion- No spirit, no victory, no fruit. Plucked up by the roots. Without water. Withering fruit. Twice dead.

Men liveth by no standard – except their own.

Immoral, pleasure seeking, restless, guilty, void of all genuine peace.

Superficial, refusing to surrender and forsake the sinfulness of the fallen nature.

A form of godliness- a cloak of maliciousness, deceiving and being deceived.

There is no such thing as ” accepting Jesus as my ” Saviour” without making Him my ” Lord” of your life.

There is no such thing as ” making a profession of faith” without being born from above.

There is no such thing as ” a double minded , double standard Christian”.

These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds [they are] without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots; Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.Jude 1 :12-13.

    And even as they did not like to retain God in [their] knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

2Ti 3:2 — For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters( elevating self ) proud, ( refuse to admit their sin ) blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,( good is evil spoken of )

2Ti 3:3 — Without natural affection,( unnatural immorality ) trucebreakers,( betrayal of marriage’s and the children of God ) false accusers ( from the father of lies),incontinent, ( no self control ) fierce ,( angry , vicious and mean ) despisers of those that are good, ( hating godly people that expose their lifestyles)

    The five wise virgins-

Relationship- Men willingly submitted to the will of God.

Obedience and allowing God to transform the inner man by the refining fires of affliction.

No justification of sin but agreeing with God.

No longer living for self but solely for Christ.

Not looking ” good on the outside” but being cleansed from the inside.

Pro 20:27 — The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.

Mal 3:3 — And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness.
