The Vatican Wants to Lay its Hands on Jerusalem

Arutz Sheva reports:

“Peace negotiations in the Middle East must tackle the issue of the status of the holy sites of Jerusalem”, Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran, head of the Vatican’s Council for Interreligious Dialogue, declared several days ago in Rome.
The Vatican’s former foreign minister asked to place some Israeli holy places under Vatican authority, alluding to the Cenacle on Mount Zion and the garden of Gethsemane at the foot of the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem.

“There will not be peace if the question of the holy sites is not adequately resolved”, Tauran said. “The part of Jerusalem within the walls – with the holy sites of the three religions – is humanity’s heritage. The sacred and unique character of the area must be safeguarded and it can only be done with a special, internationally-guaranteed statute”.

The Israeli government and the Vatican are deadlocked in discussions over the status of the religious sites. Vatican officials are now reiterating their demand for control over the religious sites in the ancient and holy city founded by King David as the capital of ancient Israel and now the capital of the reestablished Jewish state.

Danny Ayalon, Israel’s deputy foreign minister, declared that Israel might consider giving the Vatican “a greater role” in operating the sites. In the last weeks, the Roman Catholic Church’s authorities increased their political initiatives for Catholic control over some sites in Jerusalem.

The Vatican’s former arcibishop in Jerusalem, Michel Sabbah, just promoted an appeal to the European Union and United States to “stop the Hebraization of Jerusalem”.

Last summer, Latin Patriarch Twal took part in a meeting in London with Anglican Archbishop Rowan Williams of Canterbury, in which the Vatican envoy denounced the “more than 550.000 Israelis living in East Jerusalem and the West Bank” and “the demography of Jerusalem changing rapidly with the sacred space being threatened”.

The Vatican wants Israel relinquishing sovereignty at the Western Wall and the Temple Mount. The Holy See uses the expression “Holy Basin”, which refers to the area of the Temple Mount, the Mount of Olives, Mount Zion and a variety of Christian holy sites which the administration of former U.S. President Bill Clinton began reccomending be administered under a “special regime”.

The Obama plan also calls for resolving the two thorniest issues in the conflict by sharing Jerusalem and settling Arab refugees in Arab countries or a future Palestinian state, but not in Israel. According to Obama, the Old City of Jerusalem would be designated an “international zone”.

Israel’s President Shimon Peres, who has no authority, also agreed to hand over to the Vatican the sovereignty of the holy sites.

Luk 21:20-24 And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh. Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto. For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days! for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people. And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.

Friends, this is a very interesting article. While I was reading this, all I could think of was Luk 21:20-24, Mat 24:15 and Mar 13:14. Jesus were talking about the start of the great tribulation and what event will start it. In Matthew and Mark He told us to watch for the abomination of desolation (AoD), but in Luke the same event is displayed with Jerusalem compassed with armies. The plural tells us that it may be troops from different countries, an international “peacekeeping” force.

With this push of the Roman Catholic Church, we may just see the international forces backing them up. We can see that the RCC does not care about Israel. They want Jerusalem just like Palestine wants Jerusalem. It looks like Palestine will not get control over Jerusalem as Jesus said that Jerusalem will be trodden down of the gentiles (international zone).

How long will it be before Jerusalem is an international zone surrounded by peacekeeping forces? What will it take for this to be forced on Israel and propel the antichrist into Jerusalem? What will he do that will qualify as the AoD? I don’t think it will take too long for us to find out.

Thanks to Enforcinghisgrace for sending this article to me.

  1. I know one thing, it makes me blinking angry that the RCC or “O” or anyone else for that matter thinks they can come in and tell the Jews how to run their business and country. I can see how this would lead to the AoD eventually since this involves Holy sites.

  2. I think there’s an ice cube’s chance in Hell that the RCC would ever get actual administrative control of any of those sites. It is interesting that they are in effect recommending a neutral third party come in to administer the holy sites. It’s clear that being Catholic, and ostensibly Christian, the RCC is anything but neutral. If some other supranational authority were to step up and pledge to secure and maintain the sites for all faiths – I am certain the RCC would jump for joy at that – which we all know is very likely how prophecy will be fulfilled. When the AC stands up to say “peace and safety” for Jerusalem and has the master plan to secure it for the ages they will all line up to give that authority to him – which I believe is the immediate precursor to the taking away of the sacrifice and AoD.

  3. revelation 11comes to mind…temple mount is the most hotly contested piece of real estate in the world and we know power is going to be given to one single authority-anti-christ will get the say-so to settle all the issues-so there can be so-called “peace and safety” among all the ones who are demanding their piece of it. only speculation here but read somewhere that as it is divided up among the big three religions-the moslems jews and catholics (who will be representing all of christendom because of the emergent movement currently underway in this apostate age with many shrines already set up over there) will each be given part of temple mount. i think armies will soon be involved to keep the “peace” as jerusalem/temple mount becomes a global commodity and possibly a sacrifice performed there would be stopped that could become the open door to the aod. the devil wants this ground so much to “spoil” it for God (but we know God will cleanse the whole place one day and restore His Territory and Testimony there). meanwhile it looks to me that this is coming up quickly on the global agenda because “peace and safety” will be a huge sellout point for the world’s peoples gone crazy with economic and political and religious issues all totally aflame at the same time in need of direct very concentrated control. the leadership they are going to call for is readying itself-himself-right now as we speak in my estimation-though i can only speculate and have no chapter and verse to directly quote at this point. the whole issue of israel and the holy sites are the burdensome stone for certain and something of compromise will have to happen. perhaps the rumors will soon turn to wars that will leave israel in a better bargaining stance after the Lord lets her enemies take a thrashing (damascas comes to mind and heating up more and more right now). what i do know is this is all coming to pass before our very eyes and scripture reads like a newspaper. the catholic pope is physically getting weaker and weaker but maybe that will heighten religious fervor for a big move in his honor that will make a case for handing some say-so over to him–who knows–anything could happen these days-since he does speak as though he is a global player possibly used until anti-christ steps in. it is all setting the stage for some great big plays on israel and temple mount–oh yes–jerusalem truly is the burdensome stone and those who are trampling on His ground are going to be gravely injured just like the Lord has spoken.
