Some good tips for stocking up

Comment by Wickus:

Thanks to Lafreak for posting this tips. This deserve a post on its own.

—————————————————————————————————————–

A few good tips for stocking up on items that will last and be beneficial also wont take up much space.
Humans don’t need much food each day to survive as long as you get the right balance of vitamins you should be fine.

1. Go to the local health food shop and buy Whey protein powder. I can buy about 4kilos for $120 Aussie dollars. You can get multiple flavors and that is enough protein to last for
a few months having only a couple of scoops a day which is around 60g or so of protein.

2. Another good source with minimal space is Chia seeds and RAW Cacao (Cocoa) Powder. They are both really high in most vitamins more so than any other food. They are classed as a super food.

Chia seeds have been shown to have:-
• 6 times more calcium than whole milk
• 15 times more magnesium than broccoli
• 3 times more antioxidant capacity than fresh blueberries
• 3 times more iron than spinach
• 2 times more potassium than bananas
• More fibre than flaxseed…
• More protein than beans, soy, or peas
• Good source of B vitamins and the bone building minerals – a combination of calcium, phosphorus, potassium, zinc, boron, and copper
• Rich source of the antioxidants chlorogenic acid, caffeic acid, and flavanol glycosides
• High Omega 3 (ALA) content
• No gluten
• Low GI
They last ages and you can buy them by the kilo, they are tasteless so you can put them on anything even in drinks.

Raw Cacao beans contain 10 grams of flavonol antioxidants per 100 grams, which is an incredible 10%. Research has also demonstrated that the antioxidants in cacao are highly stable and easily available to human metabolism. In the adjacent table you can see that raw cocoa powder has set the world record for antioxidants with nearly 4 times the amount of antioxidants as Goji Berries. The ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) scale was developed by the United States Department of Agriculture to measure the ability of antioxidants to absorb free radicals, which normally cause cell and tissue damage. The higher the ORAC score, the higher the level of antioxidants present in the food.

ORAC scores for the Top 10 Antioxidant Foods (per 100 grams)
1) Raw cocao powder* 95,500
1) Raw cacao nibs* 62,100
2) Roasted cocoa powder 26,000
3) Goji Berries* 25,300
4) Acai Berries* 18,500
5) Dark Chocolate 13,120
6) Prunes 5,770
7) Raisins 2,830 8 ) Blueberries 2,400
9) Blackberries 2,036
10) Kale 1,770

3. Buy a food dehydrator, they are around $100 dollars and you can dry out fruit, meat and other stuff to store, Drying out food loses no nutritional value.

4. Buy a water filter preferably a jug that you can transport and then you can use creek water if you want without getting sick. Get a couple of spare filters encase.

5. Get some supplies:
Home Emergency Kit

Your emergency kit provides items you might need if you lose power or need to leave your home in a hurry.

Put Together a Home Emergency Kit

Your emergency kit contents:

Portable radio with spare batteries
Torch with spare batteries
First aid kit (with supplies necessary for your household)
Candles and waterproof matches
Important papers including emergency contact numbers
Copy of any Home Emergency Plans
Waterproof bag for valuables

When leaving or evacuating your property, place in your emergency kit:

A good supply of required medications
Any special requirements and supplies for babies, the disabled, infirm and/or elderly
Appropriate clothing and footwear
Fresh food and drinking water

Keep your emergency kit in a waterproof storage container.

On a regular basis, check your emergency kit (remember to check use-by dates on batteries and gloves) and re-stock items if you need to.

6. Things like Honey, Dried milk and a few other simple things that will just take pressure off situations are good to have.
We cant stop the system but we can make it easier to ride the financial storm which will take pressure off people and we can concentrate on helping others find the Lord instead of running around trying to eat when all we needed to do is be proactive :) .

I started a blog a few days ago regarding growing herbs and veges. I am going to show my progress and problems along the way so hopefully it will help others not get frustrated when growing their own. I’m going to try to update it as much as I can.

  1. Praise God, the Italian appeals court found them not guilty, they only charged her for slandering the bartender, which was the fault of the police to begin with. So her and her boyfriend are found innocent. I watched this one from the beginning and the police and prosecutor there railroaded these two.

The black drug dealer whose dna and evidence was all over the place did it, and was convicted but then later got his sentence reduced to 16 years.

Sorry to interrupt with this one but felt the need to share. I had no hope because this was in Italy that this young woman would be freed, but it happened. Been praying for her and her family from the beginning of this whole mess.

  2. I haven’t been following this from the beginning but I often felt when I did hear about it that she was innocent. I didn’t even know about the drug dealer until just now.
