One Theory among Many

Comment by Adamantine:

I recommend anyone with some time on their hands and a desire to study eschatology to go to Google Books advanced search and type in specific phrases which will allow one to pull up hundreds of books on prophecy from the  19th century. It is humbling and confusing to  find many different ways for attempting to make sense of Daniel and Revelation.

One comes to realize that the futurist theory as delivered to us from Hal Lindsey and others is but a distillation of many others writings.

It causes the reader to come away wondering just how anyone can make sense of it all.

Then if one reads the headlines about Europe in crisis and Israel in crisis and the world in crisis and puts the pieces of the puzzle together one realizes that for awhile the theory of ours and Herb Peters holds water. Those who never studied out the possibilities of the pattern to be fulfilled can never see it when it comes about. For 2 plus and more years events in the real world are helping us to make sense of the works of writers from hundreds of years ago. No matter how many other theories there have been…. one…. of them for the present day simply looks possible.

10 nations, seven year treaty, a red heifer, a military, diplomatic, economic genius coming together for today and we realize that it just might turn out to be the correct theory in its basics among hundreds of others.

I have had a difficult time saying this. I think you know however that some things are just too coincidental.

  1. Scripture supports that we won’t know that the time is upon us until it’s here. I don’t think the Lord gave us a roadmap to write a history of the future as so many have done. He gave us the signs of when is coming was very near.

So when you see the abomination of desolation spoken of by the prophet Daniel, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand), then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. Matthew 24:15
He’s told us here to flea to the mountains if we are in Judea at the AoD – not a lot of warning. We are not to get something from the house or return for our cloak.

What’s my point? Theorizing about the future is somewhat pointless. Recognizing what has happened – and whether or not it perfectly fulfills prophecy is essential.

We know that Israel was reborn in a day
We could make a list of the many things that have or potentially have been fulfilled- I’m not waiting for some human theory to play out – I’m waiting for the next prophecy to be fulfilled – since I know whatever comes from Him is perfect, whatever comes from us is broken, flawed, tattered, torn, and ultimately to pass away.

If I had to guess right now I think we are at the very threshold of an unprecedented wave of prophetic fulfillment – but if September turns out to be a somewhat uneventful month, we’ll still be here watching for what he has planned next.

We all interpret scripture all the time – what does it say, what does it mean, and how can I apply that to my life today. I don’t think watching scripture is any different – we don’t need complicated charts or diagrams that make us feel smart. We need to study what it says – what does that mean (or could it mean), How does it apply to current events that we see in the world (is it a perfect 100% match or not). All of the mainstream end times speakers I’ve seen have made the mistake I identified – they were all much more interested in telling us what was going to happen than what scripture actually said, giving rise to all sorts of prophetic schools of thought and theories about the future. They are all hogwash and worthless. We can surmise about whats happening – but we must guard against saying any theory or idea about the future must be so. The only thing that MUST be so is that scripture MUST be fulfilled perfectly just as it always has, just as it perfectly was the first time that Jesus set foot in Israel, and just as it will be when he sets his foot again on the mount of Olives soon.

  2. I have to ask though – has any prophetic watcher in the past two millenia been able to look at as many current events over a 60 year span and compile even 1/10th the list of possible/probable fulfillments that we can honestly say are definite/possible/probable (and very literal to the original text) today?

  3. One thing for sure, for many, many years Israel was not living in the land. Many did not believe Israel should be in the land, the RCC for one I think believes this, replacement theology ran rampant too in the middle ages protestant groups. But Isaac Newton, believe it or not, studied bible prophecy too, now he may not have been right on everything he thought, but he knew Israel had to be back in the land before Jesus returned.

So just based on that, and to me, I cannot see how anyone who read the old testament prophets can come to the conclusion that Israel will not be back in their land, but boy I know some who say they are christian who told me off in no uncertain terms on some discussion boards. I for one, cannot hang around with that crowd.

So I say again, there is no time like this one, and if we look in the past 2000 years, no I do not think anyone could say that things were lining up so well.

We keep watching and praying, and encouraging each other daily as the scriptures teach us to do.

  4. Something that’s been bothering me lately – at what point if any would any of us here be considered a watchman for our people.

As the Lord said through Ezekiel:
“The word of the Lord came to me: 2 “Son of man, speak to your people and say to them, If I bring the sword upon a land, and the people of the land take a man from among them, and make him their watchman, 3 and if he sees the sword coming upon the land and blows the trumpet and warns the people, 4 then if anyone who hears the sound of the trumpet does not take warning, and the sword comes and takes him away, his blood shall be upon his own head. 5 He heard the sound of the trumpet and did not take warning; his blood shall be upon himself. But if he had taken warning, he would have saved his life. 6 But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, so that the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any one of them, that person is taken away in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at the watchman’s hand.

7 “So you, son of man, I have made a watchman for the house of Israel. Whenever you hear a word from my mouth, you shall give them warning from me. 8 If I say to the wicked, O wicked one, you shall surely die, and you do not speak to warn the wicked to turn from his way, that wicked person shall die in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at your hand. 9 But if you warn the wicked to turn from his way, and he does not turn from his way, that person shall die in his iniquity, but you will have delivered your soul.
    Ezekiel 33:1-9

To be honest I’m at a loss – I don’t know that its time for us to pucker up and blow into that mouthpiece but shouldn’t we at least know where the trumpet is if the day does arrive that he shows us clearly that we’ve reached a point of clear fulfillment and its time to stand on that wall and let the warning ring out (even if no one listens).

  5. Well justasheep, I truly believe this site has been doing that. First off all proclaiming the gospel of Jesus. Also pointing out the error of sin, in our land, and as well telling that the end and judgement is coming. That is the way I see it, and am happy that I have been given the opportunity here to be able to post my thoughts and scriptures. You and others as well.

  6. Thanks Roma – This site isn’t hard to find is it? Nor are we shy about proclaiming the gospel or pointing to the truth of God’s word. I guess there is a little bit of the watchman’s trumpet about this place – people just have to choose to take the cotton out of their ears to hear it.

  7. i sure enjoy all of the folks here at unsealed prophecy. we can come with our questions or musings or opinions and be respected. at times agreeing to disagree but Grace works this beautifully. agendas don’t fit here (because the Word of God comes out like a sword against it i notice!). scripture fills many posts and the topics are timely and important. we all need the challenge of learning to rightly divide the scripture and that accountability is here to help each other do that. the Gospel is shared and the Lord Jesus is Who it is and should be all about. it is as though often times many here have read my mind and many times i am challenged to get out there in my thinking and do a better search into the scripture having to looking past my own nose. thanks to all of you gracious folks here. wickus and adamantine-you fellas are top notch in keeping it real and it makes this a great place for anyone to visit and look at how the Lord is working-out in the world as well as in each of us-making us watchmen that need not be ashamed. the Word of God is powerful and since His is the final Word for us-we will keep finding more and more what He has and will faithfully reveal from His Word-the Light that shines brighter and brighter in a world soon going totally dark all around us guiding us in and through perilous times till He takes us Home. what an exciting time to live and what a wonderful place we have here for much much more than information.
