The pressure on Syria’s Bashar al-Assad to step down is now intense: from the United States, from Europe, but also – perhaps more importantly – from his neighbours, including Turkey, and from his fellow Arabs, led by Saudi Arabia.
Comment by Adamantine:
It is very difficult for me to see through this except to see three things.
1) European Influence is increasing as the Mediterranean becomes a new Roman Lake
2) I can imagine Putin way up north beginning to fume at the audacity of things happening which never would have occurred in the days of the Russian USSR.
3) There is being set a precedent for the EU/NATO/UN to intervene in Israel. Why the rush to remove Assad? It sure makes a deal in Israel appear more manageable. It would seem they wish him gone before September’s meeting of the UN.
