The Vision – 1973

 Wickus here:

In 1973 David Wilkerson had a vision. The following is from “The Vision and Beyond” and on page 28, here’s what it says

“…The United States is going to experience, in the not-too-distant future, the most tragic earthquake in its history. One day soon this nation will be reeling under the impact of the biggest news story of modern times. It will be coverage of the biggest, most disastrous earthquake in history. This earthquake will cause widespread panic and fear. Without a doubt, it will become one of the most completely reported earthquakes ever. Television networks will suspend all programming and carry all-day coverage. Another earthquake, possible in Japan, may precede the one that I see coming here. There is not the slightest doubt in my mind about this forthcoming massive earthquake on our continent. I believe it will be many times more severe than the San Francisco quake.”

I am not at all convinced that this earthquake will take place in California. In fact, I believe it is going to take place where it is least expected. This terrible earthquake may happen in an area that’s not known as an earthquake belt. It will be so high on the Richter scale that it will trigger two other major earthquakes. I also believe we are going to see, later, a major earthquake in the Aleutian Islands, which will result in a number of smaller earthquakes and aftershocks all along the west coast of the United States.”

“News about government scandals, news about war and even economic problems will be completely overshadowed by earthquakes. Within minutes after this quake hits, the whole country will know it, and millions will be stunned and shocked.”

Also interesting is that Pastor Wilkerson said that a great worldwide recession (not a depression) will start of in Germany and then spread to the USA. It recently came to light that it is true that the financial collapse did start with Germany. The following is from the New York Times:

The Bank Run We Knew So Little About

IN August 2007, as world financial markets were seizing up, domestic and foreign banks began lining up for cash from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

That Aug. 20, Commerzbank of Germany borrowed $350 million at the Fed’s discount window. Two days later, Citigroup, JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America and the Wachovia Corporation each received $500 million. As collateral for all these loans, the banks put up a total of $213 billion in asset-backed securities, commercial loans and residential mortgages, including second liens.

Thus began the bank run that set off the financial crisis of 2008. But unlike other bank runs, this one was invisible to most Americans.

I have found an audio copy of Pastor Wilkerson’s Vision. You can download it at the following link: _THE_VISION__David_Wilkerson_-_mp3_audio.mp3

I am not one for modern day prophets and will not endorse them. With this I make an exception as David Wilkerson has lead a Godly and God fearing live. What he says in the book and on the audio file sounds plausible and a warning of what is to come. Also note that this vision was 38 years ago. Some of what he said has already come to pass and some is still future. Also note that he does not say “The Lord says”, but he rather says what he believes he has seen (I see…).

I like Wilkerson and his preaching but isn’t it a stretch to say a prophecy of 38 years ago qualifies for anything today?
I think there comes a time to say one was WRONG.
He was wrong. Any economic problem of today cannot be said to have been predicted 38 years ago. He told people to use the remaining few good years to prepare for the economic problem….which in this case arrived may arrive 38 years later. That is not close enough in my estimation. All of these prophecies without any real sense of time is not helpful. Here I will try my hand at it. “Some day Canada will suffer a major economic downturn.” That is simply not specific enough to be of any quality as a prophecy.

I respectfully have to disagree with you. First of all Wilkerson does not claim to be a prophet, but is just trying to explain a vision he had seen. Secondly, we both know that God has never set a date to any prophecy. There are many prophecies that has not been fulfilled for thousands of years. So 38 years is a very short time in the prophetic timeline. Let me quote from his book The Vision. This was written in 1973 when the almighty Dollar was untouchable. To say the following in those years meant that you will be laughed at. We are discussing it today:

“There is worldwide economic confusion just ahead. In my vision it is the clearest I have seen. Not only is the Dollar headed for deep trouble, but so are all other world currencies. IT IS NOT REALLY A DEPRESSION I SEE COMING, BUT A RECESSION OF SUCH MAGNITUDE THAT IT WILL AFFECT THE LIFESTYLE OF EVERY WAGE EARNER IN AMERICA AND AROUND THE WORLD. Without doubt there are lean years ahead full of monetary confusion and despair. HOW SOON IS NOT CLEAR, but it is not far away.”

“… the next few years (from 1973) will be among the most prosperous in the history of mankind. …people will continue o spend freely. Sales will break records. Credit debts will become nearly uncontrollable.” “…I believe we are going to witness the bankruptcies of some of the nations major and most popular corporations. I see tremendous difficulty arising for CREDIT CORPORATIONS” “The auto industry is going to be hurt badly”

Strange that it was the credit and real estate market that got us into this trouble. David Wilkerson has 12 pages in the book discussing the economic crises. There is to much to discuss over here. There he discuss things that did happen, is happening today and things that is still future (like the economic powerhouse will shift to Europe).

I will not put this book away as there has been many things that he saw that did happen. The odds that the rest will happen is very good.

  3. wickus this is how i see it too. the Lord gave (israel) what they wanted /lusted for and sent leanness into their souls (in the wilderness in the book of numbers). there is somewhat a parallel here because i took to heart in those years that there was much going wrong in the heart of america-roe v. wade for one example-that was setup for our current godless state.( of course much proceeded that time of wrong-doing on many fronts in the national life also) but those times were pivotal. in those years there was much opportunity for america to change course but we know she did not. all the makings of disaster were just waiting for the years to play out in the ugly choices america demanded and did not repent of. the stench of the multi-manifests are now collectively bringing this once great nation down-all in God’s timing and the whole world along with america has been on the bandwagon to tell God “get out”. so here we are living in a time that sees mankind building his “tower of babel” and the “babblers” are the screeching voice we hear demanding that the world go their way. in romans 1 it says God gave them over to their reprobate ways. the finish of the times of the gentiles are before us. God can and will continue His harvest till done. Jesus said-redeem the time and time-a very expensive commodity-is very very short in my opinion.

  4. David Wilkerson also shared a dream or vision not too long ago that he saw New York City on fire and I believe that also will come true. When 9/11 happened many asked him if this was the dream or vision he had. If I recall correctly his answer was no that what he had seen was on a larger scale across the whole city. If I am incorrect about this someone feel free to correct me.

Both Netanyahu and Buffet have said they expect a nuclear attack of New York City. They are not prophets and neither is Wilkerson. I think he is being given credit for nothing. I also do not like his saying “prophetic” things and then saying he is not a prophet. He has no right to try to have it both ways.

  6. Just because God gives someone a dream or vision to share with the body of Christ does not make them a prophet. This is why Brother Wilkerson does not call himself a prophet. God uses whomever or what ever he choses to speak to his people and perform his will to be done i.e. when he used the donkey to speak to his prophet and this is only one example.

I like Wilkerson too BUT he should quit telling us his “visions”or whatever if they are wrong. Anyone following his advice would have become bankrupt decades ago. It is wrong to say prophetic type things and then claim no responsibility because one says they are not a “prophet”. Oh well it works for him. People think it humble to say he is not a prophet. It works for Obama to say he is black when he is genetically more white. Just saying…

And yes I agree NYC will someday soon be toast but that does not make me a prophet. If I claim to have seen it in a dream or vision then I am acting as a prophet even if I say I am not.

Adamantine, I agree that it is foolish to follow advice from anyone who claims to know what the future holds. Only God knows the future and if He does not guide you to do something, it is foolish and in vein. Even on this site we follow a theory that can (if correct) lead to a time of great tribulation, but not me or you will advice anyone to take drastic steps. So yes, Pastor Wilkerson may have went to far in 1973 because of the intensity of what he felt was coming. If I must follow the intensity in my flesh that I feel some days, I will also write comments over here that I will regret. But then I realize that although we have the signs before us, I can not claim that we are FOR SURE in the 70th week as we still can be wrong. But we must still blow the trumpet.

So yes, I still believe that the vision Pastor Wilkerson had does have merit because of what is happening today, but I do agree to not sell everything and run to the mountains.

(PS. Did you read the book?)

  12. i am wanting to know more about this subject myself. prophecy seems to me to refer to the “Logos” the Word God has spoken(2 peter 1:20-21) that is the entire written canon of scripture which is closed. cannot be added to or subtracted from. we are looking into prophecy from the scriptures on this site to understand our day and times according to them. but to prophesy-from what i’ve studied so far-refers to the “Rhema”-a Word spoken from the Lord by the Spirit (example-acts 20:22-38 & 21:8-14-paul determined to go to jerusalem) that can be meant for a person/personal & specific situation and is affirmed by the (written)Logos. paul was bound in jerusalem but did not die there which was their fear. God Himself had assured paul on the ship headed for rome that he would make it all the way there as He told him(this is the written Word in acts 9:15) he would give witness(before caesar). i have much more i need to understand about all this. too many go on presumption these days rather than real faith based upon what God has spoken through His Spirit and affirmed with His very Word. (no church tradition added to it) that can happen easily if people are ignorant of and/or unskillful with scripture. study to show yourself approved (not believing in lies and false prophesies of this apostate age)2 tim 2:15. thank you for these thought provoking posts.

Be very careful of how you judge someone, one of the very few, who has stayed on track his entire life and ministry. I have been near world-reputed ministries and have watched them come to disrepute (or simply wander tin the woods of self-agrandisement) for pride, greed and lust – none of which have ever come to light about brother Wilkerson. I am thankful the Lord has taken me and my wife to the far side of the globe to escape what is shortly to come on the U.S. Watch and pray with total self-abasement if you even hope to survive. I repeat. Be very careful about strectching out your hand toward a totally credentialed man of God.

  15. Such an interesting discussion! I would like to add my two cents. The parable of the ten virgins seems to encourage us to keep watch, for the bridegroom is coming. They didn’t know the time frame either, but they were watching. Keeping our lamps trimmed and bright, is the secret, so that when he arrives, we are found ready to enter in. There are many scriptures that talk about the “right hand” of God. I am comforted and sustained by that right hand and I trust the One who holds the future in His hand.

I met him personally, and have listened to his sermons for years and read his newsletters and books. I still follow all his teachings and his church (under his son’s leadership, and Carter Conlon) They are anointed, no doubt about it. He was a very humble and serious man who always said, “I am not a prophet, but I am Watchman for the Lord.” Titles are cheap these days, cuz everyone’s an “apostle” an “evangelist”… blah. Show me your Fruit– who you are behind closed doors. David wilkerson was and still is mighty. READ THE VISION and see how he had God’s heart. Everything he predicted came to pass so far! My word to you, Wickus, is not to DARE point a finger at God’s anointed! If you are not sure, be prayerfully in your Bible and alert to what God wants from YOU in the last days, lest the curse of Miriam fall upon you. READ YOUR BIBLES EVERYONE– do not fear – – be alert, and put Jesus first in everything.

Wilkerson also predicted XXX movies on cable (that’s a reality today), openly gay Church leaders who are practicing (true), churches that cater to gays (true) homosexuality taught as normal in schools and churches (true), sex depicted in cartoons for sex education (true). When you think he wrote this 41 years ago – it’s amazing how accurate his predictions are. Ga and many other states had sodomy laws on the books. The idea of a actively practicing gay paster was preposterous. Yet, the Methodist church down the road has not one, but two!

Funnily enough I am an Adventist and we have a prophetess called Ellen White. She wrote a book called the Great Contraversy and if you read it, it has exactly the same prophecies which kind of blew me away – the ecumenical movement between Catholics and liberal protestants, New York being full of fires, economic confusion etc. It really is amazing. The difference between the two was that David didn’t talk about the importance that the ten commandments and the sabbath will be to the end times.

  20. Welcome here Wendy.

You said -” Funnily enough I am an Adventist and we have a prophetess called Ellen White”

Please read this in the spirit of love that it’s written. My prayer for you is that the Lord Jesus Christ will open your eyes to the danger of the cult you are defending and the false prophecies of Mrs White. I have no desire to debate you on the grossly deceptive teachings or try and point you to danger. I’m sure many have tried in the past and have failed. God alone has the power to open the eyes of the blind.

My heart hurts for you only because I was born into a cult myself and by the grace of God He rescued my soul from the clutches of Satan that had me CONvinced that we alone have the “truth” and not only that but that we were the “one and only true church”.

For years I would scoff and mock those who ” criticized ” my beliefs and no matter how hard they tired to show me the error of my way, I defianlty resisted. Praise God that there was a born-again believer praying for me as she faithfully asked the Lord to remove the scales off my eyes. He did.

That is my prayer for you.

  21. Thanks for your prayers Hisown1 but do you know anything about Adventism? Have you actually studied our beliefs? I think you would be very surprised at how close they are to David Wilkersons and other mainstream churches such as Baptist and Methodism. We believe in the trinity, the virgin birth, the ten commandments, the second coming. Why people think we are a cult is because we believe in the seventh day Sabbath – one of the ten commandments which yes, is quite different to you no doubt. Just because you were born into a cult doesn’t mean you should assume ours is anything like your ex-church. I would be very interested to know why you call us a cult but personally I don’t think this forum is the place to do it. This is about David Wilkerson’s vision. The fact that I have read it and am open to it shows that I am not burying my head in the sand. There is but one truth which is the bible and many christians in many churches are listening to the holy spirit despite what denomination they are in.

  23. Hisown1, with all respect it is a bit rough putting something like that out there and then backing out. You cannot just make a sweeping statement calling a church a cult without some proper evidence. I watched your video and within the first two minutes the preacher was preaching falsehoods that (Friday sunset to sunset) Saturday was not the seventh day and that it was not important. He didn’t even quote the scripture properly. If the bible is not good enough for him how sad for him. What he says about the great disappointment was absolutely true. They did misjudge and wrongly put a date on Christ’s return. We are upfront about that mistake which occurred in the group of believers before we became a church. What he says about female prophetesses being not God’s will is also not true. If God didn’t want women to be prophetesses why would he even give prophecies to nine women in the bible. This preacher is mocking and certainly not speaking in love. Hisown1 I also don’t have the luxury of debating this topic but we will have to agree to disagree on the subject of my church. Even if you don’t believe in the other parts of our church there is one thing that we do have right and that is the ten commandments. One thing I think you should know is that the people in the remnant church in revelation (look up 14:12) will be those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus. 1 John 2:3 says “And hereby we do know that we know him if we keep his commandments”. It is very plain that Jesus wants us to keep the commandments. The commandments themselves outline that it is the seventh day. If you look in the bible there is not one text that backs up that the seventh day was changed to the first day of the week. The bible is our authority and if we don’t take that as gospel then that is a perilous place to be.
Love to you also my friend and as fellow christians I pray we all know our bible better and come into unity on all aspects of doctrine one day, whether we are right or wrong now.

  24. Hi Wendy, No backing out, I just have no time or desire to debate this with you.As I said you are in my prayers and I do that daily.

John 13:34 “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another 🙂

Matthew 22:36-40 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And He said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ “This is the great and foremost commandment. “The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ “On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.”

    1Jo 3:22-24

And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.

And this is his………>>>>>> commandment, That we ……>>>>should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and ……>>>>>love one another, as he gave us commandment.

And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.

Christ has sent me from the CURSE of the law and the whole law hinges on TWO commandments. Love God with every inch of your being and love others.

  25. The problem here is that we on this board do not acknowledge Ellen G. White as a prophet. She does not pass the test of Deuteronomy 18, and is therefore not someone through whom God has spoken that we must listen to. Neither for that matter do we consider Wilkerson to be a prophet either – I don’t know what I’d call his vision really, but the things he has said are not on a par with scripture (which the words of any true prophet would be). Because the Adventist church holds the teaching of Mrs. White to be that of a prophet, and appears to observe them on a par with scripture then we as Christians have no choice but to lovingly disagree and point out the error of following a false prophet.

  27. talking about prophets doesnt Paul in Corthians say that he wished (or whatever word he used) that all would be prophets. to build up fellow belivers…after all we all need that word of encouragement….so i guess that there are different timescales for prophecy….some that happen straight away…some call a word of knowledge….some that happen in years to come… some that will not happen in our lifetime…. it says in Hebrews All these died in faith, without receiving the promises, but having seen them and having welcomed them from a distance, and having confessed that they were strangers and exiles on the earth.

So just because a prophecy doesnt happen in our generation/lifetime/timescale whatever doesnt mean that it isnt a true prophecy….

  30. Why all this speculation about whether this or that prophecy is true or not?? If you are a Bible believing Christian, you must study the prophets, including the books of Daniel and Revelation- Jesus Christ, the Apha and Omega is the greatest prophet of all, and He is the predictor of things to come in the Last days of earth’s history. Before He tells us of the End times, He proves that most of the Biblical prophecies have already been fulfilled and only a few as yet remain to be fulfilled before He comes again as King of kings and Lord of lords. The great kingdoms of the world depicted in Daniel’s account of Neb., the king of Babylon, and down through the ages, until the restoration of papal Rome, even now standing, have already been fulfilled. The devil himself will impersonate Jesus and show great signs and lying wonders, and do great miracles, and will sit again in the temple of God, desecrating it by showing that he Is God(in his own imagination). There will be a time of great trouble, such as never was, people receive the Mark of the beast Or be sealed as God’s people, there will be seven last plagues that miraculously, will not harm the sealed people of God, but only the wicked, unrepentant sinner, and then, Christ will take off His priestly garments in the Heavenly Sanctuary, put on His Kingly robes, and come back to take His people Home. Thus we see that many of the prophecies have already been fulfilled, but very pressing and important ones are yet to be fulfilled. Also, yes, there is to be a mighty earthquake before Christ appears. Now is the time to prepare for the Second Coming of our Creator, Redeemer and King. We can only have victory in Him. We must Pray for the Holy Spirit to lead us into all Truth, and for God to strengthen us and make us faithful to the End. We need not fear, Jesus will bring His people through it all🙏🏼
